I felt the same way about this book. I still haven't finished reading it. I lost track.

I just started reading for thelove of money, and I see that it isn't gonna get any better. I liked flyy girl too, but this one is just lame.

I also wouldn't recommend PUSH. can't think of the author right now, but it was a horrible read to me.

I would never recommend All That & a Bag of Chips. If you are reading this book, put it down. It is a waste of time.
Maybe it's me, but I have found books that use fad(esque) slang as their titles usually aren't worth killing the trees that they're written on.

Also add They Call Me Miss Divine. I don't know what made me purchase this book, but I want my freaking money back!!!!!

The author seemed like she was trying to be deep, hip & mysterious. I don't know. I was lost. In my naivete, I couldn't figure out the main female character. Then, 50 pages in, I finally realized that she was a prostitute!!! I was pissed. I don't generally support books that are all about the degredation of women.

She kept saying stuff like, "I'm a big girl." or "Such-n-such was a Big Girl, like me." I didn't know what that meant. Silly me!

I know this is an old post, but I liked this book. It's distrubing though.

Speaking of disturbing, I would not recommend American Psycho. It disturbed the heck out of me. I had to put it down.

I have read this entire thread and not nary a person mentioned, "The Hustler's Wife" by Nikki Turner. The story was pretty good, but when you're writing a book and describing a certain time period (e.g. the 80's), it would behoove you to know what fashions were out then and what kind of cars and accessories are in style at that time. You can base a part of the book in the 80's and talk about a car with "dubs" or a character wearing a Coogi dress to the club. Come on now.

I took a publishing class and when it came to learning about copy editing, my professor asked the class to talk about a book that each of us had read in the past and what we liked or disliked about it. THIS was at the top of my list of dislikes, and one of my female classmates agreed with me.

I've had several unsuccessful attempts to make it through a John Updike novel. His tone is needlessly pretentious in its intellectual insularity. The characters exist as if they simply live inside their own minds and that is the only reality there is, or that counts. Maybe I'm not where I should be in my own development to appreciate his writing.

On of my all time favorite books is on someone's list. I luv Tryin to sleep in the bed you've made by Debarry and Grant. I guess cause I could really relate to one of the characters.

I noticed that everyone who hated For the Love of Money by Omar T, had already read Flyy Girl. I'd never read it and enjoyed FTLOM. But the sequel Boss Lady-sucks!!!It tells the story from the perspective of Tracy's niece.

I enjoyed Taste's like chicken but hated Child of God by lolita files. It is a departure from her normal fun-drama type stuff. It's about incest, voodo and mistakes being repeated through generations. Well written, not my style at all.

My first Zane book was Afterburn. I fell in love with Zane......but then I read a few of her other books
no substance at all. Just explicit sex and not much substance.

PUSH is the most depressing and disturbing book that I've ever read.

I am an avid reader and some choices that we have listed are just wrong.
All That and a Bag of Chips is okay. I felt the same way and after i finished it turned out to be very good. The sequel is even better go back and give it a try.

Nikki Turner book. It was written in the 80's and they did wear coogi in the 80's it just wasn't as popular with every day people. That was just for the drug dealers and they girls.

Trying to sleep in the bed you made was a great book. On my list as one of the best books I ever read. The authors other books were great as well.

The only book I have not finished in all of my years was These Bones Are Not My Child. I just couldn't get through it.

Great thread

Yep. Though there are some quality books, the Black reading section near me has become indundated with the types of books you mentioned.

"You should know better" by Tina McElroy Ansa. Awful,

Awful,Awful. I could not finish it. I should have heeded the

title as the beginning of a warning: You should know better

than to read this novel!
