Won't be there. Wish I could, but can't be there. If you go, be safe, have fun, learn a lot.

Unfortunately I'm not going this year. They "conveniently" placed it too close to the 4th of July holiday and it is incredibly expensive for alumni/advisors to go. I hope everyone enjoys it and has a great time. Please be safe!

Did Anyone Go?
Did you go? What was it like this year? Any major changes in the Brotherhood come up for a vote? any issues we should know about?

Yes it did, which was a hole big mess for the delegates. They passed on requiring chapters to be above the all mens average which I thought would be a HUGE step for this fraternity, but I see both sides. Convention was a lot of fun, and a lot of not. Can't wait til next year

2.7 for chapters...still only need a 2.5 for initiation and being a member in good standing...
What were the reasons against being above the all mens average?

I heard (since I wasn't in attendance) that the all men's average wasn't voted upon since an amendment was proposed and passed to simply require a 2.7 chapter gpa. I thought that the original proposal was either a 2.7 or the all-men's average, which means that whichever was lower would suffice.

A large portion of the chapters are not above the all men's average, and alot felt like they would be under alot of pressure if they were. I understand it in some respects, because everyone has there bad semesters. One of the other presidents told me that most chapters are not ready to take that leap for there all mens average is like a 3.2. The original proposal was a chapter must meet the all men's average OR 2.7 which everone is higher. I personally think that it should be the all fraternity average.

I just wonder how much longer until a clause claiming that gender should not be an issue will be passed.

Well, that would have kept me out way back when. I had a great major GPA of 3.8. But I was weaker in other areas. Looking back, I could have done better, but then I would not be who I am today. While the GPA tells a good deal, it is not the full measure of a man.
Remember, a 2.0 C average at any of the service academies is considered a 3.75 at most other schools.
Anything else get discussed?

there were three other main issues to my knowledge (i wasnt a delegate, i was in the LC)... they are the equal rights clause in the code which says Beta does not discriminate against race, sexual preference, or religion. That actually took the delgates a long time to pass due to some chapters not agreeing to it. The other big issue was to suspend a michigan chapter (not sure which one) and that took hours and ended up being half and half. Apparently there was alot of evidence against them, and they had alot of witnesses against them too, but most of the delgates didnt want to turn on there brothers. I should note that this is all hearsay as it is what I was told by my colony's president so it could be just one persons perspective.
