Accord to Baird's we(Alpha Phi Omega) were a recognition society in 1930 (our first mention) and still are as of the most recent Baird's (1993). We have never had houses, and from the first we allowed dual membership social greek and APO (13 of our 14 founders were active members in social greeks (and stayed active in them)).
Gender has changed, we are not co-ed (changeover in 1974/1976) and we no longer official require scouting background (changeover in 1967) but with registering with the local Boy Scout council counting for that, it got fuzzy even as of the late 1950s. I wouldn't say we've moved away from being a social, but perhaps farther from being a professional.
