Honestly, I think there has to be SOME physical interaction; that's a big part of what draws the line between someone being just a friend and someone being a girlfriend/boyfriend.
That doesn't necessarily mean it has to be sex, as there are a great many people who won't for religious/personal reasons. However, the physical intimacy has to be there, and I don't think it can wait more than a month or so.
