Not quite... but many of the universities in the UK are residential colleges; when you declare a major you also enroll as a member of that particular college. You not only take classes in the college, but also eat and sleep there. Loyalties to residential colleges are almost like fraternities and sororities in a way; instead of Greek-letter organizations many proudly boast their affiliation with Kings College or Queens College, which are part of Oxford University.
