I'd also add
Ishmael, by Daniel Quinn, although he doesn't so much 'connect' with Christianity as extract from it some commonalities with other cultures, as well as examining the bases for various creation mythology - he does some very interesting things, and all require the useful context of 'myth' (ie not 'fabricated').
