Best polos: Brooks Brothers
Best oxfords: Ralph Lauren Polo
Best shorts: RL Polo
Best pants: Brooks Brothers
VV has crazy colored stuff- it screams yankee to me. RL and BB are more conservative and traditional.

Haha - generally, Yankees (at least New Englanders) don't wear crazy colors. Most of the professionals up here wear pretty conservative/traditional colors.
ETA: I agree on the polos - Brooks Brothers polos are the best. They look great and breathe really well.

Me too. It's strange to me that the Limited bought that particular brand if today's Abercrombie is what they wanted to make of it.
But maybe we were in the height of the J.Crew and Gap era so they wanted to use the preppy associations at the time.
ETA: it's an interesting corporate history, I think: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abercrombie_and_Fitch

For dress oxfords I think Brooks are better than Polo. For casual oxfords I agree though.

I generally agree, but I really like VV's oxfords. Hate their polos, but their oxfords in the spring are really comfortable.

It's like a civil war in Africa; you know, it doesn't really concern you too much. - P.J. O'Rourke

I agree that Southern Proper's website is a bit declasse.
Also, I guess I getting old as when I prepped (in NE), one either wore a starched shirt or a wrinkled natural cotton one, usually BB or J.Press.

I'll agree on BB polos, but for dress oxfords, no way on RL Polo. Real dress shirts don't have logos on them.
(Of course, I'm probably biased anyway. I don't think I've worn anything Polo in 20+ years -- I developed an almost irrational hatred and contempt for the brand sometime around law school.)

Ok, well more power to you if you wear a bow tie. Even when I've been near the courts in downtown L.A. or where ever else, I've not seen many men wearing them. I'm not a fan, but hey, if it works for you, by all means.
Now if any of you try and argue croakies, I'm out. Those went out here in the 80s.
