Southern Proper and Vineyard Vines

Any opinions on these brands?

So a search on Vineyard Vines or Southern Proper and you'll find lots of opinions. ;)

From what I gather they're two relatively new companies who made up some logos, marked their products way the eff up, called themselves "southern" and "elite," and I guess are acceptable to the social-climbers in the South who either come from money or want to spend most of their net worth pretending they come from money.

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up.

So you mean the typical Lambda Chi?

Trying too hard is in their modus operandi. Pretty sure it's in the ritual.

Actually Vinyard Vines is from Martha's Vinyard and has been around in the north for over a decade. I first ran into vinyard vines stuff in Annapolis, MD. before I ever saw it in the south.

Just fyi - no biggie.

Now Southern Proper ???

jmuaphi10 11-04-2008 04:46 PM

my chapter used Vineyard Vines and we absolutely LOVE them!!!! The fabric design was originally made/designed by our chapter in Spring 07 and our newest girls are still ordering bags now. They are so cute and fun! I definitely recommend them!

They went overboard with the "Frat Hat"

I think the text writers for that website were heavily inspired by the J.Peterman storyline in Seinfeld (and the even maybe the real J.Peterman ;))

LOL they have a bow tie with a catfish on it.

CrackerBarrel 11-04-2008 06:33 PM

I like both brands ties. But that's the only thing SoPro makes that I'll wear. I have a few VV oxfords and a pair of shorts that I am happy with, but on the shorts I'm not sure the price difference between them and a comparable brand are worth it.

I live out west, but I thought anything below the Mason Dixon line was technically "The South" which would include Annapolis, Maryland. Am I wrong?

fallen-angel 11-04-2008 10:28 PM

Hey Vandal, I'm from the South myself and I figured I'd chime in. For some reason that I have never understood, most people here don't pay attention to the Mason Dixon line. Anything above Virginia/WV is the North.
