I'm glad some of us agree on this. I would love to take you all out on a platonic (DUH) dinner. When I say "take you all out," I really mean that you are all paying for your own food. Order whatever you want from the menu, though.

2 for $20 at Applebees.
Your treat, since you always throw The View in our faces. #JustSayin

Actually, right now AlphaFrog needs to remember to actually leave room for the coffee in my Pumpkin Schnapps lattes or tonight could get rather interesting. LOL

I want a Pumpkin Schnapps latte. Does it include liquor?
Most importantly, who is paying for it?!

Like I was saying, I'll pay for the first date, but do you think it's rude for a girl to order a lot of high end food/drinks from the menu if the dude is paying for the date? On your first date what did you spend/order? Would you date her again if she ordered high end on you? I'm just trying to see if I'm looking into this too hard.

Dude, you knew before you even arrived at the restaurant that you couldn't afford to feed another stomach. If you have to balk at the bill, then you couldn't afford it before the food was even ordered. You told her to order what she wanted, and based on what you told folks you spent, it wasn't an expensive restaurant. Probably to you it was. Dinner at an average restaurant, and a movie for two is pretty much around the price you told folks you paid. Dating is about collecting data, nothing more, nothing less, and you can do that at Wendy's. Take her somewhere YOU can afford next time.
ETA: to answer your question, what's acceptable for spending on a first date is entirely up to the person paying for the date. Whatever floats your boat (what you can afford).

Wait wait wait... Can I come to dinner? I promise to order off the middle of the menu.
Unless it's shellfish.

I have to admit, this was a very very long time ago but I distinctly remember being at one of the "best" restaurants in the Detroit area and there were two menus.. one with prices and one without. The lady received the menu without prices when accompanied by a gentleman. Does that ever still happen? Anywhere?
