This is a pretty good, and very recent, thread about sorority financials:
http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...ight=financial
It explains some of the nuances and differences in sorority dues. Remember that many chapters that look cheaper on paper are omitting payments for favors, some formals or photos. Chapters that look more expensive often include a small fund for favors, and cover the costs of most/all activities. Don't try to base your rankings during recruitment on costs - it'd probably be futile, anyway.

LSU is expensive. I think you'll find that there will be extra expenses beyond what is published. Tailgating for football games, Big sis/Lil sis gifts, tshirts, formal or date party expenses may not be all inclusive. I'd have a serious discussion with your parents. If you really want this, now is the time to act as sophomores have a much lower chance of receiving a bid at LSU. I also would not expect ANY group to let you pay your NM fees on a payment plan. Assume they all will expect you to be paid in full by initiation which for all groups but Chi O would be 6-8 weeks after bid day. It's a lot to consider, but there are so many advantages to Greek Life. Look up the NPC website and look for the parents site. It may help you talk to your parents and show them more about why you want to join.

Thank you so much for responding! Your advice has really given me a lot of insight into the extra costs of the sorority a part from dues. I have talked to my parents on several occasions about it and they have made a final decision to not support it in any way! Oh well! But thank you again!

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE: PRAISE THE LORD ABOVE AND ALL THAT IS GOOD! Today I received some free lance scholarship from my dad's company that can help me pay my dues! Since it's direct deposit, everything should be taken care of! Just thought I should let you all know! Thanks ladies for all of the advice!

Good for you! Now get you recs. You need to have at least one recommendation (preferably two) for each house. If you don't have them already, there isn't much time to get them done.

That's great news!
I still recommend doing what you can to stash away cash before you leave for school. Also, start thinking of what options you have for summer employment over the next few years.

By the way, have fun at LSU. Football is a mad house. Baseball is awesome too. I'm going to the Wisconsin game in Houston and the Ole Miss game at Tiger Stadium this year. Geaux Tigers!
