And I want Obama to shut up more often than not. The POTUS isn't just like everyone else. Making public statements in front of reporters and cameras is not like what most of us do everyday. I, and a lot of people, don't know why he publicly spoke on it, particularly in the manner that he did, in the first place.

He will keep learning that an opinionated PERSON isn't the exact same as an opinionated POTUS. I'm already tired of his need to cover his words when he could've shut up in the first place, just like others were tired of the supposed "rambling idiot" Presidents before him.

I know that you don't believe in having emotions about usernames, but sometimes, I love you.

And then you talk about french fries and I'm all confused.

Exactly.

You will find that when I think people insist on making a random leap or are driving home a point that is an overstatement of the obvious, I would rather respond with "jumping ponies with puppy power" than bore myself in a serious discussion.

I don't know about impossible. While we might not be requiring officers to actually record racial data about people they have contact with, that information might be ascertainable through dash cams or other sorts of technology which records an officer's interaction with the public.

Give someone enough funding to do the study and it can get done.

There are already studies on racial profiling and racial profiling initatives. The data are collected in a number of ways.

ETA: Now all we need is a dancing Gates youtube clip or internet game referencing the officer's mama.

I think you missed what I was saying.

He made a statement that others would hear. We don't get in front of cameras but we are in front of our peers and we measure what we say TO our peers because we know the consequences of what saying the wrong things are.

This is not to dispute whether he was right or wrong in his statement or give him a pass but simply to show you, that he truly is like the next person that sometimes speaks too soon.

At work we just simply say that our boss is an asshole or our boss can't say that XYZ person working under him is lazy and inept out loud without expecting that possibly some kind of reprisal from those at whom the statements were directed at.

Same thing here. JUST like anyone else, Obama, made a statement.

Realized what he said and in front of whom he said it to and ran back to clean it up because he realized that if certain people heard what he said he would be JUDGED for it.

Just like some people would do.

if you have nothing nice to say, wait until you alone and say.

Or...and I have said this before (not my original quote BTW) about many of the wonderful statements and apologies that have fallen from the mouths of those that are exposed to the public who really should have thought before they misspoke.

"Don't say anything now that you know you will have to apologize for later."

Ugh...Obama's news conference is on my TV now. He admits his words possibly made the situation worse. Maybe he'll shut up next time. Gates is his friend, so he should've just CALLED his friend.

I agree with this lady on the street who said that Obama is getting involved in things that he should not get involved in. I also agree that the news conference about his apology was unnecessary. It was politics and then his talkative behind said this was a teachable moment. Well...gee, Obama...thanks for once again directing us on what to learn. Hopefully YOU learned something.

Woohoo.
