I response to an upper response...I don't see the problem with asking nicknames. I am from Delta Upsilon (a non-secret) fraternity, and we have no problems with making our rites, nicknames, etc. open to the public. So, if someone asks you what your nickname is (and you are part of a secret fraternity)...don''t answer the question..there is no need to chew the asker out...
By the way..my nickname is Tang, because when I was initiated I did this wierd little orangatang dance, with my arms up in the air..
