Post what's your nickname?

hey everyone,

i've been posting for a couple weeks now, sort of getting to know everyone and i was wondering what some of your nicknames were. when you were given a big sister/brother, or initiated, did you get a nickname? what is it, and if you can tell us how you got it, how DID you get it? some have really awesome nicknames and i'd love to hear them!

i guess i could start this with mine. my nickname was given at initiation by my big sister (mickey mouth). it's YIPPER. i got the nickname because i'm short and when i walk with my sisters (who are generally taller than i am), i look like a chihouhoua walking with german shephards. one day i started "yipping" like a chihouhoua to get them all to slow down, and hence, the name YIPPER came about.

okay...who's next??

I have a nickname but I must say it's inappropriate of you to ask greeks how they get their nicknames, when they get them, and who gives it to them. I know that something like a nickname is trivial but to many greeks whites and blacks alike it's something that's held for members only. That is how and when they get them. I don't mean to be mean or anything but you are sorta greek I mean. You're in Sigma Alpha Iota right? So you do understand that somethings are not for all to know. To interested GDI's I know to you this might sound stupid now, but if you ever become greek, you'll understand. Does anyone feel me? Let me know.

Thumbs up

"THEE BKLYNDELTA" is DEFINITELY FEELIN' you Nupe4life!!! I guess to each his own. Some may feel it's appropriate whereas others may NOT. But I'm definitely on the "NOT" end of things.

I guess we'll see where everyone stands as the replies increase.

Hey there Yipper!

Great story. I have a pretty unusual name, especialy for a girl, so I've never had a nick name. I just wanted to say hey to a fellow SAI sister! So HEY! I haven't seen any other SAI's on the board, so I am glad to see you!

In case you couldn't tell, my nickname is Corbin Dallas. My freshman year, a senior started introducing me as this to people at parties. It's just a play on names. In the movie the 5th Element, Bruce Willis plays Korben Dallas. My last name is Corbin, so...
There ya go. Not too many people call me that anymore. It was mostly just a name with the seniors my freshman year.

mikki,

awesome to see you! write to me at leighbwon@gurlmail.com and we'll chit chat. are you going to convention in august??

nupe4life and bklyndelta,

i really didn't intend to get people to reveal things that shouldn't be revealed. on my campus, nicknames and explanations (unless they're pledge or fraternity-related) are discussed freely. we have our nicknames on the backs of our jerseys, and mane greeks here go by thier nicknames as a title. i know i answer to "yipper" quite often. i had no idea that some fraternities keep this a secret. sorry if i offended anyone, but i guess at the university of hartford, niknames are more public than on your campus. sorry for any confusion. oh, and nupe4life...i'm not "sorta" greek, i'm greek. not halfway, not kind of, and not almost. just because SAI isn't part of panhel, UGLO or anything else, doesn't mean that we're not "just as greek" as you are.

i see no problem with displaying your nickname.

Most greeks...BLGO or others display them on there jackets or sweaters.

As you how you acquire that name, might be a different thing...

My line name of Delta Sigma Theta was Northern Exposure... for the mere fact i was the only initiate with an accent from up north, when i pledged in the south ( i am orginaly from Daytona Beach) and i use to say "YOOO!" all the time...

etienneSAI, "THEE BKLYNDELTA" did not mean to come off harsh or defiant. Like my Soror and Propyhte, MamaBuddha said, our nicknames, too, are displayed on jerseys, t-shirts, jackets, etc. It's just that some BGLO members hold the significance behind their line names "sacred" for personal reasons.

To be honest with you, I only have my line name on one shirt, that I'VE NEVER EVEN WORN!" LOL

Again, I apologize for not making my response clearer.

"THEE BKLYNDELTA",

thanks for clearing up that difference for me! i didn't know that BGLO's were that sacred with thier nicknames. i reallyneed to read up on the BGLO system as a whole...i'm kind of unfamiliar with it all. but i understand, no offense taken and let's move on...:-)

Well I feel as all the others before me have said, my nickname is something that I don't want to discuss as far as how, were and why I received it...And for the most part I feel that most nicknames stem from the person and how they behave and act. But for the record in case no one figured it out my name is Blu Theatrics and I'll let you try to figure out why I got that name

Greetings,
I really don't see all of the 3rd degree pertaining to a name; I don't have a problem with telling my name. I think alot of times people don't want to say them becuz they might be degrading.

My line name is Golden Mello-Dee. Dee is my name, and I can and love to sing, I also have a mellow kind of personality. Consequently, Mello-Dee!

icytre: I was going to leave this topic alone, that is, until I saw your post. What is the problem with members of GLOs, more specifically, BGLOs not wanting to share this information with others??

See the problem I have is with your opening statement, and I quote, "I really don''t see all the 3rd degree pertaining to a name." Your sentiments SCREAM sarcasm and "big deal," but what you fail to understand is, TO EACH HIS OWN! If fellow greeks decline to answer this question and decide to post just that, then you know what, IT'S THEIR PEROGATIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is nothing wrong with voicing your opinion, but when you try to minimize and/or dismiss the opinion of others, then you have a serious problem!!!

I mean really, "Why couldn't you just answer the question without commenting on what others have had to say ???????

I thought this forum was established so that people could voice their opinions!! NO ONE'S sentiments on a particular subject matter should be criticized!!!!!!
