Most (if not all) of my direct ancestors weren't even
in this country during slavery and the Civil War. But you just
assumed that all white people are descendent from racists and slave owners. I will be one of the first people to admit that what happened to the black race in America was both terrible and inexcusable. And that they are still suppressed, to different degrees, today. (Along with any other minority you care to name).
As Mikki said, I'm not going to change your mind. But I would
hope that for the minute or 2 that you are reading some of these posts, you could at least
consider another perspective. After all, that's what you're asking me to do when you want me to apologize for people I don't know, am not related to, nor would have agreed with in the past. And just so you know, I
am sorry that all of that has happened. I don't feel guilty about it, it had nothing to do with me, but it's still a terrible thing.
If you (and I mean everyone reading this) can't at least entertain the ideas someone else offers, whether or not you agree with them, then you will remain ignorant. Because you will never be able to see beyond your own little world and its viewpoint. This board is here so that we can learn from each other.
