had a dystocia last night-chihuahua, luckily with some oxytocin and calcium gluconate she gave birth to her 4 pups but I had poop, blood and placenta everywhere-no problem eating during this Just another day at work.

Wow, I've never seen any patients experiencing dystocia, but I have heard horror stories about cases with the puppies getting stuck in the canal, not being able to breathe, and dying. I know what you mean about eating as if you've seen nothing, though.

We've got another tumor today (labrador retriever) but we're waiting for another Dr. to help remove it. This one is pretty big. He also has the laser with him, so we can't do the spay/neuter declaws we have either, until he gets here with the machine. I'll post pics of the tumor when we're done.

I worked at an emergency clinic in Chicago and one of the worst dystocias (dystociae?!) I ever saw was a poor mini dachshund momma. She had whelped 1 or 2 puppies at home, and then had continued to be in labor for over 24 hours! We pulled 2 dead pups out of her. One came out in parts, either because it was deformed, or because it was starting to decompose.
The best part? The female owner was pregnant herself! We were all thinking, "Good God, woman! Your dog has been pushing for over a day now, and you just now get her to the hospital?!" "We all wish a horrendous labor for YOU!"
That poor, poor dachsie
