Red Stripe is the only beer that I can somewhat tolerate. I've only had a few sips but it's still tastier than those other beers I've tried. (I don't like beer.)

I think people are easily forgetting that he was asked by a reporter at the White House briefing what he thought about this situation. Obama did not bring up this situation, the reporter did. When he answered he clearly stated that at that time he did not have all the facts, but based on what he was told / understood, then his assessment was that the cop acted stupidly. His comment about the cop was 'off the cuff'. It's been the media keeping this up.
I think the 'Beer Summit' was just his good natured way to mend the situation and try to move on, which some of you seem to be unable to do.

I'll definitely agree that people on all sides of the issue seem to be unable to move on from this.
DrPhil - Red Stripe isn't bad. But, beer is one of those things that, if you don't like it, you're probably not going to like any take on it (whether it be light, dark, hoppy, mild, etc.).

He chose to answer the reporter's question. He has been tutored on how to say "no comment."

It wasn't Obama's business to begin with.

I think the release of the 911 tape, crazy people calling the neighbor, Obama's big mouth, and the neighbor's press conference are the main things keeping this going.
We were prepared to laugh and keep it moving.

I agree completely. I have been trying for years to understand why people like beer. I can't. LOL.

Agreed. That is why I said his comment was 'off the cuff'. To me he just spoke his mind at the time without really thinking.

Agreed again. That is why I emphasized that someone else brought it up, not him.

But if I did that then I won't have a chance to read all your wonderful comments!

Gates showed his true colors. Everything he said about the incident was a lie.

I can understand that.
Does Smirnoff Ice count as beer? (I'm not much of a drinker so I don't really know ) If so, then that is the only beer I like. Otherwise, I don't like beer either.

It's a malt beverage, but I don't think it counts as beer. I could be wrong, though.

Legally it counts as beer, because it is sold as a beer, at least in NJ. However most beer drinkers I know don't consider it a beer, probably because of the sweetness.

/off topic
I'm officially in the "it's not a beer" camp for Smirnoff Ice...while tasty (in that I'm in high school or my first year of college way), it's doesn't have the downright goodness that an actual beer has. I had one at a friends BBQ a while back, and it just wasn't all that good, too sweet really.
DrPhil, have you ever tried Framboise? It's a raspberry Belgian beer. Quite yummy, even to those who don't have a taste for beer.
/on topic
And now back to your regularly scheduled on-going commentary....

Beer sucks.--Its just nasty.
The cop acted stupidly.--The 9-11 report was reasonable. Once it was clarified that Gates resided at the house there was NO reason for the issue to continue. No matter how mad, arrogant, or assholeish Gates was there wasnt a need to arrest him. Possible reasons for arrest: he's black, he's arrogant & has a tude. "Im not racist I gave a black dude CPR" does not mean that the officer wasnt being prejudice. After figuring out that the person is a resident and the showing of ID there should have been NO more questions. It should have been sorry for the bother sir, have a good day. But it wasnt. Officer asswipe continued to push and prod and then got more tude out of professor arrogant. Why? Either racism or classism. Either you're mad because he's black and shouldnt "overreact" to excessive questioning or you're mad because he's rich and feels above you and should not have to submit to excessive questioning. Between the two of these the inclination toward racism is fueled by the police report that states that the caller reported two black men when in the 9-11 call the caller could not identify the race of the men and said one might have been hispanic but that they definitely weren't sure. Also the caller stated that from where she was she couldnt tell if it was someone struggling with their key or a burglar. Was it racial profiling? No. Was the arrest racially motivated? partially. Was the officer wrong? Definitely. Officer should've given an apology. Gates had more tude than necessary, but he wasnt wrong and shouldnt have been arrested.
Obama spoke his mind and pissed people off. (some because he spoke and others because of what he said.) Calling the officers actions stupid wasnt wrong or out of line. It was true and it was his opinion.
Obama bought some beers to pay for it.
My only concern is...Is BudLight the cheapest beer available? It's a recession.
