i hope that more information is released. i find it alarming that 3rd graders were capable of orchestrating such an elaborate plan and one that was so evil. drawing a picture of the teacher as a devil or writing "i hate mrs. smith", but knives?

does anyone know if the kids were all 8 or 9 years old, or were some of them older?

I don't know...as appalling as this is, it's not really that surprising. Kids watch SO much TV now, with little to no supervision from their parents. I'm sure some kid saw something that inspired them to do this.

I know this is wrong. I know it. But when they were discribing it on the news, why was I cracking up. play handcuffs, a broken knife, duct tape. This seems like a scene from Our Gang. Sadly, why I should not have laughed...it was/is reality. But the sickness in me stills find it comical.

"You tie her up"
"But I only have my TMNT numchucks. I want to bash her scull in"
"My daddy bought me a bow and arrow set. I can shoot her through the eye"
"We can get away in my Escalade Power Weels. It is four wheel drive"
"I still have my handcuffs I got last birthday. I think I have a key. If not, I know how to unlock them to put them on her"
"Otay and don't forget that duck tape."
"Okay, it sounds like a plan. Tomorrow we bring the b*tch down."
"Yeah!!"

As "sick" as your posting maybe, what is even sicker is that the conversation between the kids may have been rather close to that.

you're right,

this is TV's fault. We need to spend countless millions and give more power to FCC and then nothing bad will ever happen to anyone ever again.

I agree. I know a "special ed" teacher who has had one child break her leg, another shove her down the steps.

I'm not going to pretend to know what to do with these kids, but something really has to give.

In my experience most people hired to deal with us never had a clue.

You're friend probably could've avoided that situation. And i'm sure that the punishment for the student who defended him/herself against your friend was completely uncalled for.

Are you kidding or trying to be deliberately offensive? You read a story about a teacher getting her leg broken and pushed down stairs, and you assume that the student was defending himself or herself? Did I miss something?

I think that "the teacher deserved it comments here" were probably in jest, right? How else are kids going to learn the capital of Vermont?

just trying to add some balance. Special Ed teachers, while some are angels, some are devils. I know. I went through the system. But untill i see indisputable proof that the kid did that for no reason, I will assume it was the teacher at fault, as everyone else seems ready to blame the student.

No i'm not Kidding. I'm not being deliberately offensive, but if you're offended I couldn't care less.

There are more bad people than good that teach special ed. I wouldn't be surprised at all if those teacher's deserved it.

I can't believe you would say that. Do you know that there is a very high precentage of teachers that have been assaulted in their career? It is ridiculously high. My mother was one of them. Her student was kicked out of 3 classes before hers. It was the students that reported it because they were so tramatized. Teachers are highly underpaid and underappreciated.

Agreed! Being a teacher myself I totally agree! While nothing so serious has happened to me (I have only been pushed around and called several cuss words), I can honestly say that those teaching in public school have an uphill battle on their hands. When I was in college, one of my supervising teachers had death threats nearly every day. Another friend of mine (who happens to teach those with special needs) has had broken fingers, black eyes, a broken arm, and bites and cuts so deep she had to go to the ER. All this and she went back into her classroom and kept teaching, even when she was offered a transfer.

All this is probably one of the reasons I currently teach in private school!

Agreed. My mom (and several of my aunts) have been teachers for at least a couple of decades now and they have seen the kids get progressively worse behavior-wise.

And the parents? "what??? My angel wouldn't do that!!!!!" Whatevs. Those kids need some discipline.
