Gottcha.

It's sort of exciting to see a school like Bama COBing.

I'll be honest, at first my members were not thrilled by the prospect of COBing last spring after Chapter Total was raised. This Chapter hadn't had to COB in quite a while, long before any of the current members joined. All they could think of was how much work it would be to find only a handful of new members on top of their already busy schedule. But they quickly realized it wasn't that much "work" at all. Wow, who knew recruiting could mean inviting girls over to watch "Grey's Anatomy", to eat dinner or just hang out? In the end everyone agreed it was a lot of fun and we found some wonderful new members to boot.

Psst, I have a secret: *I* was a COB!

Actually, at the time, I couldn't go though Recruitment because of other commitments on campus. The chapter knew about me throughout the summer because I was a legacy, and they knew I wasn't going through Recruitment. I got to know one of the sisters (now my Big!) and I got a bid immediately after Bid Day!

I feel lucky to this day not to have ever gone through formal fall recruitment... but Lord knows I've experienced many since then. I never have any "what ifs" because I know Gamma Phi was the right fit for me.

I personally love COBing because you really *do* get to know the potential new member on a level far beyond formal recruitment. And usually the whole chapter knows the PNM, so it's much easier to vote on membership.

Even though I joined in formal rush I know exactly what you are saying kk_bama!

Of course the main reason for having formal recruitment is that it is the most convenient (timewise anyway) method of getting a large number of PNMs to see many different chapters and vice versa at least once. Unfortunately the time crunch leads to that whole challenge of the process becoming seemingly superficial. And making a lifetime decision in four days is tough! It would be great if we (NPcers) could figure out more ways to incorporate the best parts of informal rush into the formal process, especially at these very large campuses with very large rushes.

On a whole nother' subject

Was Mary Harmon Bryant (nee' Black) an Alpha Gamma Delta while at Alabama? Seems like I remember seeing she was. Funny story to me in Bear's autobiography of how he scored (so to speak) when he set up their first date!
