I'm not getting in between anyone on this forum!!! I just wasn't sure what you meant Jono, although I do somewhat agree with you. Don't worry about it though, there is nothing that anyone can do to undermine a fraternity by just selling a piece of jewerly or posting on a message board. We are too strong for that Jono.

Dever, unfortunately I wasn't joking about that last part. Our HQ currently owns one of, if not THE most significant piece of our history right now, and they want to give it away for destruction.

I think the great majority of us on this board are in favor of saving historical items. Items that mean something to the fraternity. I have seen brothers spend THOUSANDS of dollars on pins, papers, rare items, etc. Reading the referenced posts, I see how much historical items mean to everyone on this board.

Well HQ currently has a VERY significant item in their possession. It played a major role in the development of our fraternity, in our very first rituals and who we are today. This single one item was at the birth of our fraternity. When you think of our history and traditions, you are thinking of this one item.

Now, will you agree with me that an item of this magnitude should be saved, preserved within the fraternity? Would you be a little disappointed if you knew HQ wanted to give it away to someone to destroy?

Well, HQ has plans to sell our very first chapter house, Gamma Zeta, to the university who will then demolish it to make way for a new administration building. The same chapter house that our very first ritual was in, that we were born in. It is our very first chapter house.

I'd like to think that this house carries a little more weight than a pin or a book.

In the context of saving historical items, don't you think there should be an attempt to save our first chapter house?

Can't argue with that one bit. I personally am having a hell of a time reclaiming lost and hopefully not destroyed articles of interest that have long been lost from our house. Granted this can only compare in a miniscule way to an entire house that can be considered a large symbol of our past. Regardless, in grand scheme of things I know very very very little about our past, I have enough trouble with our local history. Sigh...

Ever try to submit the house as a national/state landmark. The alpha sig house next door is a state landmark for being one of the oldest standing houses in Columbus. Means the government cant touch it now.

Dever, some action is in the works. Unfortunately I wish it would never have come to that.

Anyways, don't worry about the past, you can't change it.

Focus on the future. Let us oldtimers worry about the past, YOU focus on recruitment and keeping the chapter moving forward. Active members should not worry about the past until they reach alumni status.

Believe it or not, I think 97% of LXA's really don't know much about our past other than a brief sampling of whats in the Paed. Don't worry, all in good time.
