Brother selling pins on eBay
Men of LXA,
It appears one of your own brothers is selling pins on eBay. http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZlxaz1 There is also a thread in Greek Life about this. http://greekchat.com/gcforums/showthread.php?t=86820 |
Thanks, for the concern. I posted in length my opinion on this matter in that thread.

A pin is just that, a pin.
To me, he isn't selling a LXA pin, he's just selling a piece of metal with some jewels. We have to give symbols their meanings. If someone wants to sell a pin, that's great for them. Now, I noticed that many brothers say "DON'T SELL THE PIN, IT IS HISTORICALLY SIGNIFICANT". Or that we must keep it within the fraternity because it is a symbol and a part of our history. There is a lot of effort to preserve our past within the fraternity except... What if I told you that HQ is in possession of probably our most historical, important and significant items right now? What if I told you HQ is going to destroy a piece from our very first ritual? An object that was directly used for our very first initiation? How would you react? What would be your thoughts on that? |
It's pathetic what some people will do to try and undermine a fraternity such as ours.
|
Might I ask what exactly is being undermined?
|
Nothing is being undermined. The operative word is "try", and I was referring to the OP who should mind her own business and not crash our forum trying to stir up trouble. And that's all she was trying to do. Ignore her. She doesn't belong here.

I hope your joking about the last part. |
Tom, please delete this thread.

Thank you for illustrating my point. Now get out of here.

I'm not getting in between anyone on this forum!!! I just wasn't sure what you meant Jono, although I do somewhat agree with you. Don't worry about it though, there is nothing that anyone can do to undermine a fraternity by just selling a piece of jewerly or posting on a message board. We are too strong for that Jono.
Dever, unfortunately I wasn't joking about that last part. Our HQ currently owns one of, if not THE most significant piece of our history right now, and they want to give it away for destruction. I think the great majority of us on this board are in favor of saving historical items. Items that mean something to the fraternity. I have seen brothers spend THOUSANDS of dollars on pins, papers, rare items, etc. Reading the referenced posts, I see how much historical items mean to everyone on this board. Well HQ currently has a VERY significant item in their possession. It played a major role in the development of our fraternity, in our very first rituals and who we are today. This single one item was at the birth of our fraternity. When you think of our history and traditions, you are thinking of this one item. Now, will you agree with me that an item of this magnitude should be saved, preserved within the fraternity? Would you be a little disappointed if you knew HQ wanted to give it away to someone to destroy? Well, HQ has plans to sell our very first chapter house, Gamma Zeta, to the university who will then demolish it to make way for a new administration building. The same chapter house that our very first ritual was in, that we were born in. It is our very first chapter house. I'd like to think that this house carries a little more weight than a pin or a book. In the context of saving historical items, don't you think there should be an attempt to save our first chapter house? |

Ever try to submit the house as a national/state landmark. The alpha sig house next door is a state landmark for being one of the oldest standing houses in Columbus. Means the government cant touch it now. |
Dever, some action is in the works. Unfortunately I wish it would never have come to that.
Anyways, don't worry about the past, you can't change it. Focus on the future. Let us oldtimers worry about the past, YOU focus on recruitment and keeping the chapter moving forward. Active members should not worry about the past until they reach alumni status. Believe it or not, I think 97% of LXA's really don't know much about our past other than a brief sampling of whats in the Paed. Don't worry, all in good time. |
These people are ridiculous, I also posted on the other thread, but there are SEVERAL people on GC who are just too damn narrow-minded, to understand what actually goes on.
I mean the highest I seen a badge other than LXA go for was like 50-60 dollars, WOW what a profit on that! He can be a millionaire overnight with all the money he is raking in (i know the brothers got the sarcasm, but the rest of the fools probably wont) :D Anyway, they are just hatin' on Lambda Chi Alpha, probably out of frustration from the fact that we are the BEST, no contest! |
"Don't sweat the small stuff"
|
A quick search of ebay turned up 141 listings under "fraternity pin" and 183 for "sorority pin."
Any reason you're so interested in the handfull of pins beign sold by our brother? Are you vigilantes, tracking down all sellers of greek pins? What is your motivation? |
