Problems with Recs

I'm all about getting recs, but I'm aware of a small problem. I know I can't tell anyone where I'm from, other than that it's in the south.

There is only an alumnae group for one of those organizations. The second is at least an hour away, the third is over two hours away, and the fourth doesn't even exist in my state.

Does anyone have advice on how to proceed with this knowledge?

Try to contact the Alumnae Panhellenic that's closest to your area. Alumnae Panhellnics are alumnae groups made up of women from each of the 26 NPC organizations (or most of them). They exist to promote sorority life in the community and often help young women with preparing for rush, and MAY be able to help you with recs.

They're listed alphabetically by city here:

I was a junior when I joined. I went to a school that had 4 NPC sororities. Don't lose hope, it can be done. I would never change waiting until later in school to join. I made the best decision because of it.

Be positive, meet anyone and everyone you can, get recs if you can (I didn't have any), and just be your fabulous self!!!

Age is obviously a factor, but the fact that you're going to be in school for a long as someone going through a recruitment as a sophomore should definitely help you out. Just be sure to mention it...you don't have to go into details, but let them know that you had a situation where you had to move home and that's why you're just now starting your life at this school. Tell them you know you have at least 3 good years there and can't wait to get involved. Obviously, there are no guarantees, but I think this will help your chances. I think it's worth it!

Good luck and like others have pointed it, recs are always a good thing. They may be able to help the chapter see more about you than just your age.

Also, if it makes you feel any better, there are girls that joined some chapters on my campus as 21 year old juniors and turned 22 shortly afterwards.

Just to keep everyone updated, I contacted NPC for the info for my closest Panhellenic Assoc. Group. (Which is at least 5 hours away!)

I'm starting to get really nervous. I'd really like to have stellar recs, considering my slightly unusual situation.

I know I should read up on each Org, but how much? I don't want to go into recruitment and have all their info memorized. That would scare some people. I don't want to ruin my chances by being stalkerish. Ick.

I think I need a mocha.

This made me .

Don't go nuts memorizing mascots, mission statements etc...that leaves the girls rushing you with nothing to talk about. Just so you know which group is which color and maybe a question or 2 to ask about their philanthropies, and you should be fine.

First things first. Relax. Being nervous when recruitment is months away will do you no go good. Visit the sorority national websites (you can find those HERE) but don't get too wrapped up in knowing everything about them. The sororities don't expect you to know ALL about them. Whatever you can learn about the sororities is good, as long as you don't go into recruitment spouting it off like a "know it all".

33girl- Glad I made you smile. I enjoy making people smile. I'm in the medical field and that's one of the things I hold closest to my heart. I ended up with an iced caramel latte. Yum, lol.

KSUViolet- You are an amazing resource for information. Thank you so much.

I am still working on getting transcripts and such for my new school and for the PA group I'll be contacting. Life is busy.
