There are still a few small places down there to check out. Lower East Side, Village etal Best idea: look for small, locally owned/operated off the tourist type beaten path. York and 1St can be interesting as well. Check prices.

And from how you described your Hotel location, you are either Upper East Side or Yorkville. That can be high rent area=some expensive restaurants.
