On a slight swerve I've got a question, Greek Life is toying with the idea of eliminating one day to have a future three day schedule. The campus has always had four days of recruitment and anywhere from 4-6 sororities over the past 20+ years. Using RFM, would eliminating one day cause the strong returning chapters (who already cut 50-60% following day one) to eliminate even more PNMs after the first day(70-80%)? Or would the cuts become more spread out (maybe 40% following day one and 40% following day two)? I fear that by eliminating one day of a four-day schedule, recruitment becomes more stressful and competitive for both the chapters and the PNMs. Any thoughts?

At Dartmouth, we have 3 rounds (although often the rounds are split into two days for scheduling purposes). Last year we had 7 sororities, and we have 8 now.

We did 7-4-2 last year and it worked well. I think it might be difficult to pull of with 8 sororities, but 3 rounds worked just fine for 7 groups. Cutting down a day/round will increase the cuts for high-performing sororities, but it shouldn't double them.

RFM recommendation for 5 sororities is a three day/round process, I believe 5-3-2.

Plus, I wholeheartedly advocate shortening the rush process. It's so stressful/time-consuming for both members and PNMs (not to mention expensive), and generally the result will be the same even with a shortened process (the beauty of RFM).
