Excuse the forum crash, but I feel like I need to respond to this because the website source of the headline is suspect as it is a natural wellness company trying to market its "natural birth services" as it demonizes this bill as forcing meds on pregnant women by "Big Pharma".
In reading the actual bill, it's clear the intent is to provide screening, access to information and resources for postpartum women and their families, there is no mention of labeling pregnancy as a mental illness.
As a side note, this bill was dropped in May 2007, it only has 9 cosponsors, it's clear it's languishing in committee. It was previously introduced in June 2006, garnered all of 3 cosponsors, and also died in committee.
It seems this Senator from NJ has a constituency at home he is aiming to please by introducing this legislation, even though it continues to stall.
The "wellness" website is trying to get people worked up by misrepresenting this "for show" piece of legislation to garner business; this bill, first of all, has no legs, and secondly, is not what they're presenting. Just wanted to offer the other side of the story...
