It's part of sportsmanship, which anyone of any age should have learned by the time they get to the Olympics. I'm not saying look like you're ecstatic to have won silver; I'm saying don't make faces on the podium.

She's not the only one to have displayed poor sportsmanship. The takedown of Lolo Jones by her own teammates, both in print and on TV, was objectionable. You would think they would have been groomed to act and behave a certain way on screen or in print since the eyes of the world are literally on them, but I don't know what's going on here. I've seen middle school tennis players act more dignified. Acting polite in public when you're disappointed or upset is one of the hallmarks of maturity.

I didn't find Lolo's "takedown" to be either objectionable or a takedown. But I tend to be in the minority on this one, except for my facebook friends who have called her a green-eyed Jezebel.

As a Massachusetts resident, I request a "McKayla Maroney is not impressed" meme with the idea that anyone in this country can take Mitt Romney seriously at all. I have no idea who his running mate is, but I'm figuring it can't be..... oh heck. I won't go any further.

Yahoo! did a whole slideshow on Olympians who seem disappointed with their silver medals. Of course, good ol' McKayla is number one but there were plenty others (some of them on the podium when the photos were snapped).

Also understand that pictures taken in a millisecond of a ceremony, etc. that can last for several minutes. If I had trained for years, I wouldn't be smiling and doing a happy dance for 10 minutes or so while standing on a box.

I think that situation was tricky - the media is focusing on Lolo and her failures (because she's pretty) when meanwhile an American won gold four years ago and won silver this year, in spite of what was going on with Lolo. I think they're justifiably angry with the media and perhaps missed the mark when they insinuated that Lolo didn't work hard.

Lolo Jones, Dawn Harper, Kellie Wells: Female Olympians Can’t Outrun Patriarchy
I really hate the phrase "exotic beauty" as though beauty needs such specifications.

I looked at that whole slideshow. It showed people hiding emotions including shame. Michael Phelp's was hanging his head in two of the pictures. Many of the people were not smiling, but none had the look tha McKayla had that started this whole thing. She looked bored and above it all. The other silver medalists looked like they knew THEY had failed. There is a difference.

For me the kicker wasn't her facial expression, but her body language. She had her arms crossed on the podium. The rest had their heads hanging down or they looked sad. She just looked like a brat who didn't get what she wanted. I do think, however, the meme is funny.

I agree that their anger is justified, but it appeared to me that they took it out on their teammate in a public manner, which I just saw as bad sportsmanship. I've read that the additional media coverage on Lolo has been based on her looks, as well as colorism, but that doesn't give Harper and Wells a pass to diss their teammate on international TV. Now the media (and we) are discussing this instead of their accomplishments.

I do understand what she means. If I spent all that time training then screwed up on my own account, I would be pissed at myself too. But also agree with:

And I came here to say this but I see I've been beaten to the punch:

The body language is what does it for me to. Not only is she crossing her arms like she's pouting, it looks like she's trying to hide the medal. What's up with that?
