Some context: Maroney seemed like a sure thing to win the gold medal in Sunday's vault competition, but she fell on her second attempt and had to settle for silver. What happened next will live on the Internet forever, or at least until tomorrow. With the medal draped around her neck, Maroney stood on the podium with her arms crossed, looking thoroughly unimpressed.

The viral phenomenon was born Tuesday night when McKayla Is Not Impressed was registered on Tumblr by Gavin Alaoen, a 28-year-old digital designer in New York. He started by Photoshopping a cutout of Maroney into three Olympic shots: Usain Bolt posing with the London Games's one-eyed mascot, the U.S. men's basketball team hamming it up on the sideline and Alex Morgan scoring a goal to send the U.S. women's soccer team into the gold-medal game.

Since then, Maroney has been unimpressed by pretty much everything, including but not limited to: double rainbows, "The Starry Night," the Situation Room, the American Revolution, man on the moon, the Sistine Chapel and Blake Griffin dunking over a car. Alaoen even published the picture of Maroney so anyone could make their own, and he has since started publishing outside submissions.

I put it on the World of Rennies Facebook. It's less impressive though (hehe), since we have Mona Lisas ranging from Wonder Woman to The Rock.

I'm laugh-crying at the email and IM exchange I'm having with a coworker right now over this. Her response was "They're not even trying to get on the podium."

I cannot stop sharing this picture.

I just showed the Mona Lisa one to my mother and she cracked up! She said on one level she feels bad that now this is what McKayla is going to be remembered for, but on another level it's way too funny to not keep passing around.
