Jillian Bandes (left) wrote in Tuesday's "Licensed to Jill" column in the UNC-Chapel Hill Daily Tar Heel: "I want all Arabs to be stripped naked and cavity-searched if they get within 100 yards of an airport. I don’t care if they’re being inconvenienced. I don’t care if it seems as though their rights are being violated." She was fired on Wednesday. "I wanted to get people talking," she says. "I did that. It also got me fired."

I don't think she should be fired. She is a dumb ass though. Out of curiosity, does college newspaper pay their reporters?
ETA: Can you provide us the link to the story? Seems like there is more to the story then what you've posted.

My college's paper paid students, and paid quite nicely.

Well besides being racial insensitive, okay just plain stupid, the major reason she was fired was for misleading sources... and for playing fast and loose with quotes from sources (ie. editing them to make them say what she wanted).
