Philanthropy Weekend
This weekend my Alumnae Chapter teamed up with the Collegiate Chapter for a "Philanthropy Weekend". On Saturday we volunteered (or ran) in the Race for the Cure. I (not being the most athletic girl in the world) volunteered at the Survivors Tent. I had the honor of meeting many many women who fought breast cancer and had won. These amazing women ranged from being a very recent survivor of 2 months to an incredibly scrappy and inspiring woman who was a 40 year survivor! I found myself getting choked up several times.
Sunday, through our partnership with the NFL, we passed out pink ribbons at the football game. It was great to see all the big tough guys accept and wear the pink ribbons.
It was an amazing weekend! If any of you have the opportunity to be involved with your local Race for the Cure, I HIGHLY recommend it! Waking up at 5am was definitely worth it!!

If only we had one locally! I have fond memories of the Omaha RFTC, which was one of the first ones in the nation.

What a wonderful weekend of sisterhood and service! Our RFTC is always on Mother's Day. Which is great for me, since my Mom and I always walk. But it makes if difficult to get volunteers.
The Kappa Iota chapter helped at the Giants game two weeks ago and had a blast.
Sidenote:
Please Philadelphia Eagles consider our request again to Think Pink!!

Hey everyone! Sorry if I get long winded but it's well worth listening to what happened at our RFTC. We just had our race in Macon, GA for the 8th year this past weekend. It was so worth waking up early for. Unfortunately we don't have a lot of alumnae that live in the area that are active. Only less than 10 alumnae showed but I was AMAZED at how many collegiates showed up. The closest collegiate chapter is about 45 minutes away but we had 4 chapters show up.
KUDOS go out to the presidents of these chapters. Our new Kappa Upsilon chapter at Georgia College and State University (about 45 mins away) brought 110 out of 120 sisters. My Eta Alpha chapter at Georgia Southwestern State University (about 1.5 hours away) brought about 20 out 45 sisters. The Zeta Xi chapter at Georgia Southern (about 2 hours away) brought about 40 sisters. The sisters that came the farthest was the Eta Mu chapter at Augusta State University (about 2.5 hours away). These girls drove down the night before, spent their own money and got hotel rooms so they could be here!!!
I am so proud of my sisters in Georgia for supporting the only RFTC outside of Atlanta. Go ZETA!!!!!!!!

It's great to see Central Park all in Pink for the Race here in NYC. They expanded the Survivor Tent from just a place to meet and eat before/after the race to a Survivor Village. A few different tents for Survivors, some with free gifts, free after race massages, it was great! We volunteered in the food tent - if I never cut another bagel in my life that'll be fine!!
I was lucky enough this summer to have some free time and volunteered at the Komen offices. It's nice to see all sides of the Race, especially all the prep work that goes into Race Day!

The best part of volunteering (besides being inside in AC in hot July...) was I got to stuff envelopes with applications where the fee had been paid already by Coldwater Creek. Those apps went to different organizations that serve women who may not be able to afford the race fee. It wasn't the most glamourous task but it certainly did a lot of good!
Oh and this is a cute story too! One of the summer interns was a soon to be frosh at Tulane. She and another volunteer and I started talking about college life, sororities, etc. When I said "Oh I'm a Zeta Tau Alpha" she said "Oh did you know they're a race sponsor?" I smiled "Why of course! Why else do you think I'm here!!!"
Oh and yes wedded bliss is exactly that...blissfull! Thanks
