Chapter Probation

I'm seeking to become a member of DST at my university's chapter but i've recently discovered that the chapter has gotten a probation... how bad is a probation and what are they usually distributed for i've been looking online but i still haven't been able to find a possible reason for why my school's chapter is on probation... please tell me if you can
