Post Chapter Probation

I have researched all of the Black Greek Letter Sororities and I have decided I want to become a member of Zeta Phi Beta Inc. I am fond of the sorority because they give back to their communities and they are close with their brothers of Phi Beta Sigma Inc. But the Zeta chapter at my university was recently taken off probation, and I am worried that they may have a tarnished reputation because of that. I was wondering should I just try to go through a graduate chapter? Or is there nothing to worry about?

Dear Wannabe,

As I am sure you know, that all of the BGLO's give to the community in one form or another and all claim to be connected to some fraternity in one form or another. Thus it has to be something much more that has peaked your interest in Zeta Phi Beta, Inc., so take your time and be sure because joining any Sorority is a life long promise to serve your community.
Now on to joining Zeta Phi Beta via a Graduate chapter. I will tell you up front, you can't just decide to join via a Graduate chapter .....Graduate chapter membership is via Invitation Only. If there is a active chapter at the school that you attend, then that must be the avenue you take. Now you could wait until you graduate, but you better bring a lot more to the table then just your degree. Get to know my Sorors at your school, attend some of their functions,
do some more research and then make a firm decision. If Zeta is truly the path that you want to take....then go for it!

A chapter's reputation is only as good or as bad as the reputation of the members from which the chapter is composed. If you truly feel you are of Zeta quality, and there are like minded women who are willing to also go the Zeta way, then it matters not the former "reputation" of the chapter, but who's in the chapter today, and what they are doing to exemplify and support the principles of the Sorority.

Whether you join a collegiate or graduate chapter is really up to you. Do keep in mind, however, that graduate membership is usually by recommendation only, whereas collegiate chapter is a bit more open. Don't allow the previous rep of the collegiate chapter stop you from providing your skills to Zeta, however. If Zeta is calling you now, then now is the time to join.

Good luck, and keep up posted.

Best,
Shela
