Delta Psi Sigma
Has anyone heard of Delta Psi Sigma? They seem to be a multicultural sorority (although all their members are Asian, it seems) that was founded in New York in 2001. http://deltapsisigmainc.org/
What would we call these non-collegiate, non-affiliated GLOs? They aren't "local", per se, but I wouldn't call them "national" either. They have girls who aren't college-age, but also have girls who are.

What's wrong with that right there?

I've heard "community-based" used for orgs whose chapters are generally not affiliated with a college or university. I would probably call them a regional community-based GLO.
Where did they say they were multicultural? I couldn't find that term.

Interesting; I'd always been confused as to what to classify these types of organizations, haha.
@Senruset I: was that addressed to me? I'm sorry if it came off elitist or anything, I didn't mean it. There's nothing particularly wrong with DYS.
@preciousjeni: "Delta Psi Sigma’s founding sisters have established a sisterhood to unite sisters from different cultural backgrounds." It never states explicitly that it is multicultural, but I feel it is sort of implied.

No, you didn't come off as elitist -- I was just saying that I didn't see anything wrong with how you already categorized them: non-collegiate, non-affiliated. Sounds simple enough to me!

"The mission of Delta Psi Sigma Sorority is to unite college women from various campuses to encourage & motivate academic achievement & cultural diversity, promote sisterhood, guidance, love and friendship amongst our sisters & to provide service to our community."
I didn't look through the whole site but....What makes you think they aren't a collegiate sorority?
"Delta Psi Sigma is the sole social, and service sorority to have such a diversified founding class. Delta Psi Sigma will be the first sorority to have a founding class from different schools and welcomes any girl who is ambitious and determined to join us in our special vision of sisterhood"
hmmmm okay...NOT!

Yeah they're pulling the "we're better than those OTHER sororities" thing (FAIL), but I think they're just not tied to one campus.

Wait...what? Their founding class is comprised of people from different schools, and that's the selling point?
Hmm.

@DiamondAthena:
Haha, I'm sorry for the confusion. I was using "collegiate" in the sense of being explicitly affiliated with a specific university. As in, Alpha chapter at University A, Beta chapter at University B, etc. Delta Psi Sigma (DYS) splits its chapters by city instead of university.
@Drolefille: it seems many local sororities start up that way...
