Delta Delta Delta/Sigma Sigma Sigm
After looking at the website of Tri Sigma, I can't help but feel there are some real similarities between the two. Check out Tri Sigma's website:
http://www.trisigma.org
- Only sororities with three of the same letter
- Both mention "perpetual bonds of friendship"
- Both mention "a stronger & more womanly character"
- Tri Sigma & Tri Delta both have similar insignia that go on stationary. (I cannot find an example of DDD, but SSS has it right on their website in the top left corner)
- Inspiring high standards of ethical conduct sounds a little like broaden the moral & intellectual life
- DDD founded in 1888/SSS founded in 1898 (a mere 10 years later & involving a lot of 8s!)
- DDD magazine The TRIdent/SSS magazine The TRIangle (aka DDD's symbol)
I just feel like I am on the outside of some practical joke when looking at these similarities!

Pardon the crash ladies:
Yes, the similarities are funny/weird, but any similarities between Tri Delta and Tri Sigma are purely coincidental.
The same can be said about a couple of other NPC sororities (i.e. Tri Sigma & Sigma Kappa).
Just putting this out there (just in case this thread turns into one of those crazy "OMG Tri Sigma is a Tri Delt copycat" kind of things).

I saw the same coicidences and thought it was pretty neat ! I don't think Anna meant to start an "OMG Tri Sigma is a Tri Delt(a) copycat" thread" lol.
I can see what you are stating about other NPC sororities being similar but I wonder if any two share some of the exact same wording in their purpose. I don't know the answer to this BTW just curious >

Do you mean their actual motto, or do you mean the mission statements and things that have come about in the past 10-15 years? If it's the latter, they basically all sound the same. Apparently the same marketing consultant gave a discount to NPC groups.

I meant the purpose (I guess it could be also called a mission statement). I know Tri Delta's was written the year of our founding (1888) and thought most other NPC organizations were written closer to when they were founded too. However, I could definitely be mistaken about that.

I believe that Sarah Ida Shaw had a hand in helping with Tri Sigma's development. I have a Tri Sigma friend who mentioned she learned about Ida Shaw Martin as a NM...this was the name Sarah Ida Shaw went by after marrying. She's clearly not a founder but served as a sort-of consultant to a number of women's GLOs.

Just some clarification:
As a Sigma, I can tell you that there's nothing in our official NM program (either Essential Sigma or our old program Forever Sigma) that mentions Sarah Ida Shaw as someone who helped "develop" or start us in any way. There are some people mentioned as helping us out, but she is not one of them.
Again, not saying that she isn't credited with helping out other sororities, but this would be the first I've heard of her having any involvement with us.
So anything about any connections with Tri Delt, as far as I know (and our HQ knows) is purely speculation.

Alright kids, enough is enough. Now we're just going to start rumors. Nothing more to add or say...lets just move along to something else.
