It doesn't make much sense to me...
As a lot of us predicted, the Honesty Box has created many trainwrecks. There's drama on other message boards where members are facebook friends and there's some drama among people I know in real life.
Some of the comments that were repeated are just awful.
My question is...if someone thinks that negatively of the person who has the honesty box, why are they facebook friends in the first place?
People who I truly cannot stand are no where near my facebook and myspace profiles, hell they are no where near my life. If they are, I will try my best to get them out of my life. I find it draining and unproductive to associate with people who I dislike.

Was this supposed to be in the honest box thread?

Nope, this is a related, but separate topic.

Cool.
I don't get the feeling that facebook friend is a particularly sincere form of friendship, do you?

Obviously not. That was kind of my overall question. Why waste your time to "befriend" someone you don't like? I can see how this may be neccessary in certain environments, like at work. That person who you dislike may be the person who can get you ahead. But random people you meet and people from college...I don't see what anyone can gain from associating with people who they hate. Ok, there MAY be a few exceptions, but just a few.

So you routinely decline friend invitations?
I think most people just kind of accept all the ones they get. It's not like you interact with them necessarily, so it seems like there's little harm.

I've been lucky that I have not received any invitations from anyone who I really dislike...yet.
But, I'm kind of extending this question outside of facebook.

In terms of facebook -- damn if I know! I think some people just want to be all up in your business. That's why after the "homo" remark I received, I deleted about 75 people. I either didn't trust them or didn't know them or both.
I used to allow strangers to add me for networking purposes, but no more.
In real life is a little different. Being cordial is one thing.... you can have conversations with people and never really be their friend. That's because kindness is free, you know? But faking the funk....nah.... I won't ask for favors or a listening ear or anything if I know we're not true friends.

^^^Agree. I'm not a member of facebook, mainly because I don't know how to use it. I think that if someone were going to be honest with me and they were my friend, they wouldn't have to post something annonymously. They would be able to tell me to my face. Just a thought.

Me too, especially recently. There are a bunch of people with like 4 friends and no network and no picture. Yeah, they are NOT my friend.
(Although I always do check to see if it's someone from the GC group, but that's usually the only reason someone out of the blue would be friending me)

I've been getting those too.
The only person that I have as a friend on Facebook, that I don't know from anywhere else except Facebook is a guy who friended me from the Greek group at my school. I accepted because he's a Delta Sigma Phi from about the same time we did homecoming with them, so I probably have met him, just not "fomally".

Why do you even HAVE a sockpuppet? You're not 'edgy' enough to really need one.
