What is the dumbest advice/myth
that someone ever gave you on sex?
**just think...this is the reason why we still need to teach our kids about sex the right way because I am willing to bet some of what you all post is probably still being told to these kids**
I will start with 2.
when I was sixteen I was told the following:
1. Spanish fly (which was harmless) will make a woman horny for you regardless (now we have exstacy which can potentially kill) of how she feels about you
2. If she gets on top you can't get her pregnant.

I knew a guy who once told his girl that if she jumped up and down after sex, she couldn't get pregnant.

-You can get pregnant from oral. (Whoever started this one must have been absolutely clueless about the human body, since the digestive tract in no way "crosses" or "meets" the reproductive tract.)
-You can't get pregnant your first time. (Although, I think this is more of a "we don't need a condom" line.)
-If you wear two (or more) condoms, you'll be extra safe. (Actually, the latex rubbing together causes friction that makes the condoms break. It's LESS safe.)
-You can get pregnant while on your period. (The sex you have DURING your period can cause a pregnancy when you ovulate LATER in your cycle, but generally, unless your cycle is really messed up, you can't get pregnant while you're having your period.)

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're saying, but I was always under the impression that there is no "safe" period of time and you can always get pregnant no matter what stage of the menstrual cycle you are in.

Hence why I said that you can get pregnant from the sex you have DURING your period. Semen can live in the human body for 7-10 days. "Textbook" your cycle is 28 days. You ovulate on day 14. Generally the egg remains fertile for about 3 days. Therefore, you can get pregnant if semen reaches your egg between day 14 and day 17. And, like I said, sperm lives up to 10 days. So, if you have a "textbook" cycle (which almost no one does, it's an average), if you have sex anywhere between day 4 and day 17, you can get pregnant. Where things get sticky is the fact that not every woman ovulates on day 14 - some way before and some way after. Also, 3 days is an average fertility, it could actually be 1 day or 5 days.
BUT, in regards to your period, you would have to be ovulating during your period to actually get pregnant while you are having your period. That would be extremely rare.
What people are saying when they say that "Yes, you can get pregnant during your period" is that say you have sex on day 4 of your period...the sperm lives 10 days, and you ovulate on day 14 (your cycle begins the first day of your period), then you would get pregnant from the sex you had during your period, but you wouldn't GET pregnant while you were having your period.

I am sending this to my husband. I have tried to explain the sperm live for 10 days thing to him multiple times, but he just doesn't get it. He also doesn't understand how due dates are calculated (based on the start of your last period, NOT the date of conception since that is not usually known).

You can calculate from conception, and it's actually more accurate, but you're right, most people don't know their conception date - unless it was a break in a dry spell or a one-night stand.

Q: What do you call people who use the "rhythm method" of birth control?
A: Parents.

This reminds me of spring break and the "if two people are having sex in the hot tub and you are in the hot tub (but don't participate in the sex), you can get pregnant"
Which leads me to- why would you sit in a hot tub with two other people having sex?

And that reminds me of the genital herpes commercial...
"70% of people got gential herpes from their partner while they were experiencing no symptoms..."
Yeah...well that still leaves 30% that are having sex with nasty goods. Gross.

I remember an aquaintance in my dorm freaking out when she got the news from our student health center that she had gential herpes. She swore she was a virgin. Then we saw her boyfriend walking around with two HUGE cold sores on his mouth.
