Coach Bags---Repairs?

I have a leather Coach bag I bought less than 1 year ago, and have definitely not put it to excessive use. Now the leather on the bottom is completely splitting! The split is about 1/2 inch long, pretty deep and looks like it will get worse if I keep using it (which I'm not...). Has anyone sent their Coach bag in to be repaired and if so, does this sound like something in the realm of being repaired? Otherwise, I'm not really sure there's anything I can do about it but I'm pretty angry that it's falling apart on me. Any suggestions for how to handle this would be appreciated!

Send it back to Coach or wherever you got it. Coach is suppose to have decent guarantee on their workmanship, or at least they did with the products I had. And they either fix it or send you a new or improved item.

Call or e-mail customer service. If you send it in you'll have to pay $20 plus s&h but first I would call and see what they can do. Honestly they may not repair it but you might get full credit for the price of the bag, a new bag of the same type, or a percentage off your next purchase.

What style bag is it?

They will either fix it, send you a merchandise credit including the tax you paid, or a 40% off coupon. I had a signature multifunction bag that had popped a couple of stitches and had some fraying, and they gave me a merchandise credit for the original purchase price. With splitting leather, they will probably give you a refund.

I agree with the above posters- Coach is pretty good about making you happy if there is a problem with their product. I had an eyelet that was coming off a strap, and took it back to the store. They took care of all the shipping costs. They said it couldn't be fixed (still not sure why, though- it was just an eyelet!) and gave me the option of a brand new purse or keeping my purse and a 40% off coupon. I took the 40% off, bought a watch, and took the pourse to a local leathersmith who fixed it for like $15! Best of both worlds!

This time last year I sent in my signature tote for repair b/c the bottom corner was ripped. It couldn't be repaired and they weren't making the tote anymore, so I got a credit for the tote, plus. I was sad to not have the bag anymore, but I got a cute pink bag for the summer.

Bumping this thread to give you all an update...

After calling customer service reps from Coach, I sent my bag in to be "evaluated" about 2 weeks after starting this thread. On Friday, my bag was finally returned to me in the mail. Unfortunately, they said the bag is unable to be repaired because it's the corner that is splitting. They did not offer me a credit toward a new bag or anything. Instead, I have a coupon for free shipping on another order. Needless to say, I'm not very satisfied so I may be making a stop into a Coach store or calling the customer service reps again after the holiday weekend.

Ouch. I'm sorry to hear that happened to you.

My mother used to carry Coach bags, until she bought a navy leather bag that quickly turned grey, and Coach refused to do anything about it. Read: Their customer service sucks.

You could try duct tape...

I had a coworker who just had a not-so-great experience with them as well. And we are both big Coach fans!

She's had a leather makeup case for a while and the lining inside had separated from the leather near the top zipper. She took it to the Coach store, laid out $20 for them to ship it out for repairs, only to find that they couldn't do anything for it. Really? She bitched enough that they gave her a 40% coupon towards her next purchase.

Side note: I was going to see my fabulous shoemaker the next weekend to repair my favorite stiletto t-straps, took her makeup bag at the off chance he might be able to do something about it. Five minutes later, the lining was fixed free of charge with a little leather glue.

Ridiculous.

I've been hearing a lot lately that Coach's customer service is leaving a lot to be desired. Which is sad, to me, because they weren't always that way.

I went to the outlet in Aurora, IL and saw absolutely nothing I couldn't do without, and at this point, if I'm going to pay full retail for a purse, you can bet you're bottom dollar it's not going to be a Coach. I've heard far too many horror stories lately.

I'm still drooling over that royal blue patent Furla, though.

I'm going to need Coach to get back to basics (clean and classic looks, and less of the trends). I mean, really Coach, If I wanted tacky skulls and ugly designs on my bags, I'd go pick up an Ed Hardy.

I also find that the newer collections are finding their way to the outlets MUCH quicker than other collections in the past, which leads me to believe that I'm not the only one who isn't into their new stuff these days.

Well, the pink summer bag I got after 2 summers starting wearing really bad on the straps. I just sent it in and got a letter for full credit. None of the bags online appeal to me, so I may wait a few months and see.

Just wanted to say though, while the bag didn't last as long as I would have liked, I still had a very smooth coach customer service experience.

LMAO

I have only had four Coach bags in my entire life which i know pales in comparison to most Coach fans, but there has been such an obvious shift in the quality over time that I no longer carry Coach. I think their designs have become more tacky which is a problem because I like bags with simple lines, classic styles.

Another thing that REALLY annoyed me about Coach was how they raised their prices to compete with more expensive brands. Sorry Coach but you have the moniker of affordable luxury. Don't try to compete with those lines. When I first saw the $10,000 Coach alligator bag I nearly choked. I would never spend $10k on a Coach bag. The quality of the skin wasn't all that great.

I just wanted to share my experience with Coach's customer service today.

This morning as I was leaving, my 10 year old beloved Coach bag ripped straight though the suade at the clasp. I didn't think much of it, and accepted the fact that it had lived a long life. Anyways, I was at the Coach outlet today with my mom, and as she was checking out, I mentioned something about my bag ripping that morning. The manager came out, looked at my bag, and explained that it was not a repair they could do, and gave me a $90 credit on the spot towards a new bag for surrendering mine. It doesn't seem like much in the grand scheme of Coach pricing, but I was impressed that they would do it for a bag that was that old.

Anyways, I'm satisfied. I ended up getting a $350 bag for 20 bucks after all the discounts. Thank goodness, the outlet was filled with the more classic Coach styles, not those god-awful hideous cartoon monstrosities.

Also, you no longer are required to send in your bag just to see if they will repair it. You just have to bring it in to a store.

Kappamd - that's pretty awesome that they would do that for a bag that old!

I've heard stories of people being turned away because of the age of the bag, so I'd say your $90 credit was definitely a win
