General Fashion Thread

I couldn't find a general fashion thread, so I decided I would start one because I need advice on outfits outside of recruitment :-)

So I have this navy suit:

and I need shoes and a shirt to match. I have nude patent heels that I think will work, but then can I not wear a white shirt underneath the suit? What color shirt am I supposed to wear? Something that matches the nude color? Or am I overthinking this and white is fine?

Hmmm. In general I don't care for light shoes with dark slacks. This dilemma is why I avoid navy!

Nude is ment to go with everything. You can try the white shirt, but if it were me, I would try to find a shirt with a pattern that includes navy or another color blue.

Thank you for starting this! I want to talk about leggings/jeggings. I think there should be general rules about leggings. First, if you are in your mid-30s, are leggings still ok to wear?

Thanks! I found something that's patterned, but it's mostly white and navy, so I wasn't sure if the white "clashed" with the nude heels.

I think so, just never as pants (that goes for any age). My mom is in her 60's and wears leggings with tunics to wear them in fall.

DeltaBetaBaby I really love that suit! Depending on how traditional your work environment is I'd either wear it with a crisp white shirt and a colorful necklace, or a colorful blouse for a more relaxed style (as in, not cotton but more flowy material and in one striking color like eggplant or yellow).

I'd wear the nude shoes, not everything has to match in my opinion. But if you want them to match a bit try some jewelry in the same tones?

First of all...yes to this thread!
Secondly, I tend to be on the wild side. Have you tried a shoe with a print or another color entirely? Otherwise, the nude shoe is fine with a white shirt, both are classic.

I'm in my early thirties, and I vote yes. I don't think there is an inappropriate age in which to wear Leggings/Jeggings as long as the look is flattering. I get on my mother about this all the time. Yes, there should be a level of age appropriateness, but that doesn't mean someone should have to give up style because they aren't 30 anymore.

Now HOW they are worn/look is a different story. I have a pair of red Levi jeggings, and they look like stretched jeans more than a legging. I wear shorter tops with my jeggings because I like to show off my curves and they look like regular jeans. With regular leggings I stick to wearing tunics.

I think the biggest rule is that nobody should be able to make out the shape of your ladybits. So, either they are a loose enough fit/thick enough fabric, or you wear something long enough on top.

Having watched 100s of hours of What Not to Wear I feel qualified to say Nude is Neutral and Navy is Neutral. A white shirt is classic if it fits well. I would say the shirt should be your "pop of color" if you don't do a statement necklace or bracelet.

I would add to this that if the fabric isn't thick enough or the fit isn't loose enough to conceal your cellulite, then wear a tunic! Saw a woman just yesterday wearing leggings (maybe they were tights?) as pants, and I saw every dimple in her behind. (It was not a good look for her.)

Her top was beautiful, too. A longer shirt with the leggings or regular pants with the blouse she had on would have been fine. She was an attractive lady, too.

I will love this thread. I just styled an article for a local magazine aimed a normal people who shop in normal stores: Victoria's Secret, Target, etc. I did have to use on high end store, where I chose a dress from the sale rack. It was based on the premise that one sweater could take you through fall with just changing a few pieces. If anyone would like to see it and comment, I'd be appreciative. I want them to use me again and good comments would help that!

But back to Navy. I am already over the nude shoes trend, I think. I think you could most definitely wear the nude shoes. I would do a patterned or striped blouse. I wear a lot of scarves and statement necklaces to mix things up. I even have a couple of antique broaches I throw on jackets now and then.

I'd love to see it. Now that I live in a college town, my shopping options are severely limited. The nearest Banana Republic is over an hour away!

I'd go with a white shirt and a great red shoe. But I'm really on a nautical kick lately.

Love a red/white/blue combo. Wearing one today!

I need your opinion regarding watches in a conservative workplace environment.
I currently wear this watch which has the option of changing the straps.

Is this ok for a more conservative workplace? (banking/consulting firm where a two-piece suit is typical workwear) Or should I buy a brown/black leather strap?
