advice, advice
to keep things private i'm not going to go into detail of where i am from (except i will say in the south), and i won't go into detail about which chapters are which, besides using substitute letters.
so i am a junior in college. i always had my heart set upon rushing even in high school. i love the idea of a sorority, it must be an awesome feeling to have such a huge "family" of girls that are with you through thick and thin. that you have shared secrets and bonds that no one else knows about. (i probably sound a bit cheesy , but thats how i think about it).
anyways, i have always had something come up to keep me from rushing!
freshman year- couldn't move down to college in enough time for rush. parents were very busy with work and couldn't take time off until a few days after rush began. i was so depressed and i became kind of sorority crazy. i was so envious of all the girls leaving for socials and formals, wearing their letters on campus and seeing them at football games all together. i was so unhappy with my parents for not being able to get me down in time, but they wanted to move me themselves, you know the whole "parent saying goodbye" to their child thing!
sophomore year- stupid reason really: dating a great guy (still dating him now) when we met freshman year he had ended a relationship a few months earlier with a girl in ABC. he said he couldn't take the constant strain of her being in a sorority, they had other problems as well...but i believe that was the deal breaker for them. i decided that i could involve myself in other activities and be just as happy. totally wrong. i saw so many new girls totally in love with their sorority. anyways i ended up transferring because my major i decided on wasnt offered, and i am now at another college.
this year- i just figured i was too old now, i figured i could just push it to the back of my mind and forget about it, i'm at a new school, new oppurtunities, new things to do, i will forget about my desire to rush and just go on with life. well no. first thing on campus i see is the girls in their bid day shirts. i thought to myself, "i am so pathetic!! why am i so sad seeing the new freshman girls in their bid day shirts?! i'm an upperclassman and i am acting like a jealous 14 year old!" i sound like an old lady talking about all her regrets in life. tooooo young for this!
so i am thinking, would senior year be my year? or should i just give up on it and find something else to do with my time?
thanks

Hoenstly, it may be tough to get a bid senior year depending on the school, especially if you plan to graduate this year.
If you want, go for it. But if you're at a bigger southern school, you might be out of luck.

If you transferred to a very, very, very noncompetitive campus where it is common for juniors and seniors to receive bids (call the Greek life office and ask for percentages) I would say go ahead and try. Although I would see if any groups are doing COB next semester, rather than waiting till you are a senior. (I'm assuming by your post that rush is already over at your school, which does not bode well for where I think you might be.)
But quite frankly, it seems as though you have always found something (which is different than "something came up") to keep you from rushing. Freshman year, for example - if you thought about rush all through high school and wanted to do it THAT badly, you would have found another relative or friend to get you to campus so you could rush, and told your parents they would just have to deal. If you still have the same boyfriend, the "not rushing because of my boyfriend" issue still applies, regardless of school.
Honestly, I think you've built this up into something it could never fulfill - have you gotten involved in other activities? If not, I suggest you do so. I also suggest you look long and hard at your relationship with your boyfriend if he's keeping you from doing things you want to do.

THIS.
If you are at one of the more competitive schools that I think you are at (likely an SEC school), you have more than likely missed the boat on sorority recruitment.

no, i am not at an SEC school. i have missed recruitment though at my school though. i know there are some sororities that do COB throughout the year, and some hold a small spring recruitment period. as for boyfriend...he has not kept me from any other activities. it was my foolish judgement not rushing sophomore year and at trying to keep both of us happy, because i obviously am not pleased with the decision that i made. but everyone makes mistakes. however, as for my parents...we don't have any family that lives near us, they reside either way upstate (and they are elderly) or in another state. that truly was something i didn't have any control over, believe me...i asked around for help. i am involved in other activities, but my heart is set on greek life.

If this is something your "heart is set on", then check out COB/spring recruitment.
We can't tell you for sure if you'll get a bid, but at least you tried.
Depending on your school, the chapters may prefer mostly freshmen and sophomores.
There's no harm in trying and just seeing what happens.
I'd advise you to try this year rather than next though.

Any any chance is there a sorority colonizing at your school this year? They'll want a small senior class...when DG colonized at NCSU in the fall, we even took a few Seniors graduating in Dec...instant alumnae!

This is so tough without knowing any additional information, but as I think to myself--you will never know if you don't try. You should go full force and see what may happen for you. If you do that, you will have no regrets to look back on. If you don't try, you will always wonder and you will regret that you did not give it your best shot. The worse scenario is you will be in the same spot you are right now. What do you have to lose?

Try rushing this spring. Do not wait until next fall. Because quite frankly, the groups that will give you a bid are probably the ones doing COB & spring rush anyway.

If your campus is noncompetitive and there are chapters doing COB/spring recruitment, you might have a chance, especially if you are a junior now. But, you'd better get a move on! I went to a small college where it was rare for any of the chapters to achieve chapter total (the upper limit of how many members they can have) via fall recruitment. We had to COB until we reached total. If there are chapters on your campus that have spots to fill, it might not matter so much right now that you are a junior. If you wait until spring, though, you are a less appealing candidate because you only have one full year left.

There were a few of my chapter sisters that went through recruitment as juniors and received bids at the small state university I went to.

Don't wait until next fall. Check with the Greek Life office about chapters who are COBing now. Also inquire about Spring informal recruitment. The chapters participating in COB and informal are in all liklihood the only chapters who might have an interest in taking you. Meanwhile, keep your grades up and pick a couple of campus organizations with which to get involved. Sororites will be looking at your grades and activities.
Try to sit next to sorority girls in your classes. Be friendly and strike up converstions with them. Ditto for your club activities.
If you go through COB or informal, keep a very open mind and let the full process play out before you make a decision.
If you're asked why you haven't participated in recruitment up until now, I would keep your explanation short and simple -- just say that greek life has always held an interest for you, but that you simply haven't pursued it up until this point (perhaps because you were focused on transferring schools.)

So I just wanted to thank you ladies for your suggestions and I have a couple sorority friends and they had a few girls drop so they had some open spaces for girls, and so they had a COB event and I was invited and was offered a bid
