the big sis is an initiated member who is a special friend to the new member/little sis. in some sororities, the new member will get a temporary big sister on the day she pledges, then other girls for a week for several weeks, until she gets her permanent big sister.
the big sis is available to the little sis to answer questions about the sorority, the pledge period and college in general. she looks after and out for her little sis, just as a real biological sister would look after her younger bio. sister. some big/little relationships are very close and some aren't.
