Being an alum myself I would both agree with the above post and add to it.
The best way to improve alumni relations is not to bribe them with gifts, what they really want is a chance to come back and re-live their memories from their time as actives. HOST an event that allows them that opportunity, the best gift you can give them is your time.
Good generic answers to this are golf outings or dinners. But depending on your alumni base you might want to go with something more casual. A good way to get more alumni to show up to events is to include spouses. I know for my chapter's White Rose each year we made sure that the wives are equally as entertained. Whatever you do just keep in mind that they are looking for an experience, not a tangible object. As long as you keep that in mind whatever you do will be a big success.
