Part II of the Recruitment Saga
I cannot tell you how excited I was about starting recruitment. I had all of my outfits picked out and was ready to go. Every night of recruitment here is at least somewhat dressy, but this was the most casual night so I decided to wear a very casual skirt and top. We had had an Orientation on Tuesday (I originally thought it was Wednesday! Apologies for the mistake!) I met my Rho Chi, who was just about the cutest thing ever and I really liked a lot of the girls in my group, which happened to include my roommate.
The first house my Rho Chi group visited was
House. This house was absolutely gorgeous from the outside even! They had a beautiful set up and it just looked girly and cute. We entered the house to their cheers (that took me by surprise! I was slightly intimidated for sure) in alphabetical order and as we walked in the door we were met by a woman from that chapter who we talked to. I ended up getting paired off with the President. She was very sweet and seemed genuinely interested in hearing about me. I liked talking to her a lot. The next girl who I spoke to gave me a brief tour of the house. It wasn't quite as cute on the inside as I had thought it would be, but she was very interesting and talked about the places she had studied abroad at (a lot of places!) I just felt really comfortable here!
We then moved on to
Lost. They weren't quite as loud or spirited as the girls at House had been, but they all were smiling and you could tell still excited. The first girl I talked with cracked me up. She was just hilarious. She showed me around their house, which was very small but beautifully decorated. I talked to two other girls at this house, one who is in one of my classes who is also very quiet. I felt like I was doing the majority of the talking. The other girl just didn't seem like she wanted to be there all that much, but as I walked out the door one of the sisters explained to me that that girl had just had a very upsetting breakup with her boyfriend that afternoon and was having a hard time getting into recruitment right then
Next was
Big Bang Theory. (Am I such a nerd for loving this show??) Some of the PNMs had to double up to talk with an active since this chapter is still so small. They also don't currently have a house, so we talked with them in one of our larger conference rooms. The first girl who I talked with (along with my roommate) was sweet and had a lot of nice things to say about BBT, as did the other three who I talked to. They kept rotating us around, introducing each of us to as many sisters as they could, which was nice. Though I am not totally keen on being a part of a chapter with no house currently, I can see how much progress they have made and I kept seeing myself wanting to be a part of that...
Now onto
That 70s Show. The girls were SO LOUD outside the house! It got me excited to go inside and talk to everyone. First the President spoke to our group about That 70s and then we went inside. I talked to a variety of girls here and finally was able to ask some questions about the sorority, which I hadn't had much of a chance to do at the other houses. This was the first house where I got a really good feel of what the sorority meant to the members. I found myself not wanting to leave at the end of the half hour.
And finally...
Friends! What was funny was that the first girl I talked to here was my friend's sister who I already know somewhat. They match girls up randomely so it was entirely unintentional. She showed me around the house and then we stood in the kitchen and talked about Friends. She told me about all the social events they have done since she joined Friends and then left to use the bathroom. While she was gone, I talked to another girl who sort of threw me off. She kept looking at her cell phone and staring behind me. After a couple minutes, another member came up behind her (I don't know if she was supposed to talk to me too or not) and basically they just started talking to one another as if I wasn't there. It was very awkward.
Afterwards we met up with our Rho Chi again and went to fill out the cards. I had a really hard time deciphering what to do, as we could be invited to four the next event. I finally put..
1) That 70s Show
2) House
3) Lost
4) Big Bang Theory
5) Friends
I really just couldn't get over how strange and unwanted I had felt at Friends...
The next event was two days later and I had to wait that long to see where I had been invited back
