Fraternity chapters at U. S. News top colleges & universities

With the release of the annual U. S. News & World Report rankings of top colleges & universities I have attempted to compile a list of fraternity chapters at these most prestigious schools. Using the top 50 universities and top 20 colleges, the following are the fraternities with the most chapters.

Currently there is at least some fraternity presence at 50 of these 70 institutions. At 13 there has never been any fraternity activity (at the other severn Greek life has been banned).

A diclaimer: Fraternities are not nearly so accurate (or honest) as sororities at listing their active chapters. I have placed as asterisk beside two groups as there may be a question as to the viability of some chapters they list as "active." Some of the fraternities may surprise you as the number on this list is large compared to their total number of chapters.

37 Sigma Chi
37 Sigma Phi Epsilon
32 Alpha Epsilon Pi **
31 Pi Kappa Alpha
31 Sigma Alpha Epsilon
31 Sigma Nu
27 Beta Theta Pi
26 Kappa Sigma
25 Delta Kappa Epsilon **
25 Delta Upsilon
23 Phi Delta Theta
23 Zeta Beta Tau
21 Phi Gamma Delta
21 Phi Kappa Psi
21 Theta Chi
20 Delta Tau Delta
20 Lambda Chi Alpha
19 Alpha Tau Omega
19 Sigma Alpha Mu
19 Zeta Psi
18 Psi Upsilon
17 Kappa Alpha
16 Alpha Delta Phi
16 Chi Phi
16 Chi Psi
15 Tau Kappa Epsilon

I also thought it might be interesting to learn how many chapters each group has installed at the 57 institutions that have ever had fraternities, and to see how close any group came to starting a chapter at all of them. That list may also surprise you:

50 Alpha Epsilon Pi
44 Sigma Chi
44 Sigma Nu
43 Beta Theta Pi
43 Sigma Phi Epsilon
42 Delta Upsilon
41 Kappa Sigma
40 Sigma Alpha Epsilon
39 Alpha Tau Omega
39 Delta Kappa Epsilon
38 Phi Delta Theta
38 Phi Gamma Delta
38 Pi Kappa Alpha
36 Delta Tau Delta
36 Zeta Beta Tau
35 Phi Kappa Psi
34 Lambda Chi Alpha
34 Zeta Psi
32 Theta Chi
31 Chi Psi
30 Alpha Delta Phi
30 Phi Sigma Kappa
30 Psi Upsilon
30 Theta Delta Chi
29 Sigma Alpha MU

Sorry but I need a little clarification.

Just off the top of my head but I assume that fraternities that aren't on the first list (i.e. Sig Pi, KapSig, ADG) are 0?

And when fraternities from the first list (i.e. KA or TKE) aren't on the 2nd, it means all of their chapters at the top schools are still active (and the only ones they attempted to do at the schools)?

I can't decide if that's the funniest thing I've read today or the most absurd. I guess it can be both.

Eh. Only if you find US News & World Report's annual rankings to have any real meaning.
