Fall Rush
Typically, what is Fall rush like compared to formal? Is it better to rush during formal rush if you're not a freshman? What's the dress code (i haven't found it on the Vandy greek site yet)?

Typically, fall recruitment is formal recruitment.
Formal is better in that all chapters are eligible to take new members.
Try googling because I found the answer to your dress code question in 0.30 seconds.

on some campuses, formal recruitment is in the fall. on other campuses formal recruitment is in the spring.
during formal recruitment all the npc sororities participate so you get to meet girls from all the chapters on your campus. typically, all the chapters do not participate in informal (COB or COR) recruitment, so you don't have as many choices. informal is just that, more laid back and relaxed than formal.

I think that Vanderbilt's formal rush is in the spring.
concordance11 - not all of the chapters will be participating in rush in the fall, but if you want to check out the ones that are, I would go ahead. Just remember that this is only a fraction of the chapters on campus and one of the ones not participating might be a better fit for you.
Vandy people or people who know - is rushing as a 2nd semester sophomore a handicap?

In my experience at Vandy, a limited number of chapters participate in fall recruitment and those chapters typically have a good idea about which potential members they are interested in (often close friends of the other sophomores in the sorority). If you have a chapter in mind that you are interested in joining or friends in a group that is participating, then fall recruitment might be for you.
If you are not as familiar with all of the groups or do not know a lot of the women in the groups that are participating in the fall, then formal recruitment in the spring will give you an opportunity to become acquainted with all of the organizations. I wouldn’t say that being a sophomore is a disadvantage in the spring. It may be more so for some chapters than others, but in general I think sophomores do just fine.
As far as the dress code goes for formal recruitment in the spring, Greek Life will provide you will all of that information in terms of what you need to wear for each round. It can be quite cold in Nashville in January, so keep in mind that a lot of what you see for formal recruitment at other schools will not apply.

Like other people have said during fall recruitment in your case, not all sororities participate. I know rush for me was trying to find that special fit with a group of girls and I certainly would want to see all of the sororities because in there own special way they are all different from each other. So unless you very specifically have and idea of what sorority you want to join ( not just a "I think I want to join this sorority", but a "I know I want to join this sorority it's the only one for me) than I would defiantly wait until formal recruitment.

Fall recruitment at Vandy doesn't include all of the sororities, while formal recruitment does. Formal recruitment gives you the opportunity to meet members in all chapters, so I generally suggest that people go through formal.
