This e-bay listing upsets me.
http://cgi.ebay.com/Pi-Beta-Phi-soro...QQcmdZViewItem
Genuine Pi Beta Phi Hazing Paddle
22" long
3 1/2" wide
5/8" thick
Real wood, Pi Beta Phi greek letters branded/carved into the wood. All other text on the item is printed on the surface, but those three greek symbols are nicely carved/branded. There is a leather wrist-strap to hang the item from, or to help keep a grip on the item.
This fine paddle was manufactured by Letter Perfect, Highland Park IL, USA.
The front of the item also features the Pi Beta Phi crest, and there is the text "TO BIG SIS KARA FROM LITTLE SIS HAILEY '99" printed below the greek letters.
The back features the text "Oregon Alpha Chapter" and "University of Oregon" and a crest of the University of Oregon, and the words "Letter Perfect, Highland Pk., IL"
According to the official web site, "The mission of Pi Beta Phi Fraternity for women is to promote friendship, develop women of intellect and integrity, cultivate leadership potential and enrich lives through community service."
And there is also spanking involved, I suppose. Heh heh. Enjoy this fine paddle!
The words "Pi Beta Phi" and "hazing" together upsets me sooo much. The person was able to go to our website to find the mission, but not the fact that we're classy ladies who in no way would every tolerate any kind of hazing.

Pardon the interruption, but...
I love the eBay category the seller listed it in:
Listed in category: Sporting Goods > Exercise & Fitness > Gym, Workout & Yoga > Strength Training > Other

I'm sure you don't believe that no chapter of Pi Beta Phi has ever engaged in hazing.
But the more pressing issue should be why this seller has this paddle.

Um, yeah, I'd personally be pretty irritated at "Big Sis Kara" from the Oregon Alpha chapter who seems to have let go of her paddle in less than 10 years. If it was stolen, she can appeal to eBay and have it removed. If she gave or threw it away or sold it in a yard sale or something, that seller unfortunately has the right to do whatever he wants with it. It's clear the seller isn't greek and the little "paddling involved" statement is obnoxious.

Then you wonder who is going to purchase the paddle. I don't know how Pi Beta Phi's nhq handles this but you all could jump on this.

seriously. GASP! hazing, in my sorority? NEVAR!
but yeah. Kara and Hailey need to be contacted as to why they gave this away to be sold.
ETA: I would rather have given it to another sister or back to her little. but not at a yard sale or whatever.

I'm not saying EVER, but how the national policy is NOW is very strict.
I see pins all the time, even beautiful old engraved ones, and I wonder how they got away.
