Woman Gains Silver Star -- And Removal From Combat
Woman Gains Silver Star -- And Removal From Combat
Case Shows Contradictions of Army Rules
KHOST, Afghanistan -- Pfc. Monica Brown cracked open the door of her Humvee outside a remote village in eastern Afghanistan to the pop of bullets shot by Taliban fighters. But instead of taking cover, the 18-year-old medic grabbed her bag and ran through gunfire toward fellow soldiers in a crippled and burning vehicle.
Vice President Cheney pinned Brown, of Lake Jackson, Tex., with a Silver Star in March for repeatedly risking her life on April 25, 2007, to shield and treat her wounded comrades, displaying bravery and grit. She is the second woman since World War II to receive the nation's third-highest combat medal.

WOW, a woman really did that!
One never knows what one will do in situations like this and she was a very staunch and proud woman who was worried more about he safety of her commrads than her own!
She deserves a lot of credit!
She was probly scared S**tless but did what she was trained for and a damn great job!

It's this part that makes the rest of your post pointless.

A bit ago, the history channel had a show on/about the A-10.
They showed one that looked like a flying junk yard.
In an interview with the squadrons senior maintenance chef (a male lifer of an NCO), he said that the pilot was the only one in the entire squadron would could have brought the plane back.
The following are links to her story:

Not seeing the connection except for women in the military doing the brave things that they're expected to do as part of their jobs.

Perhaps that is the connection-I am agreeing with you, not fighting with you
Odd thing, if one reads both stories, is how the pilot received the DFC and was NOT removed from combat.

You know what blows my mind about this? She is 18.
Some of us talk about listing groups on your bid card as being a difficult decision at that age, and it's an interesting contrast of priorities and experiences.
How do you think the public would react to a re-evaluation of women in combat? Would people be happy about it as a recognition of equality or would people see it as a sinister way of putting more young people into the war?

Good leadership quality...teh willingess to sacrifie oneself to say others...very unselfish for any man or woman....
Question is....would anyone else be willing to do the same thing that this person did?
Or move as quickly?
