"The Return of Jezebel James"

Did anyone else get through the premiere tonight? I watched, figuring I'd found my next favorite show because:
1. I LOVE Parker Posey
2. I WORSHIPPED Gilmore Girls (same writer/creator)
3. I thought Lauren Ambrose was BRILLIANT in that movie Swimming.

I hated every second of both episodes tonight. So did Mr. Skylark. I think I owe him a Man Movie after that, too.

At one point I looked over at him and asked, "Do you think this was written during the writer's strike?"

It was that bad.

Anyone else?

The first episode was hard to watch. I wanted so much to like it. Most difficult was the part she was "crying". Crying is hard enough to pull off; in order for something to be comedic, the actor has to believe it him/herself. She, unfortunately, did not.

The second episode was more bearable, but I think that her character needs some work. If she is intelligent enough to be an Editor (ie. understand concepts, plots, re-organzing entire manuscripts without sacrificing continuity), then she would not be so clueless. For example, when the doctor told her the name of the syndrome she has. And the Hello Kitty stuff is contradictory to what a "professional" woman might be into.

Then again, I love Hello Kitty and everything pink.

Usually I can call pass/fail in the first episode, but I will wait a few more to make my decision.

I seriously had trouble believing the dialogue was written by the same person who wrote Gilmore Girls.

I also agree with you, ree-Xi, about her character needing major work. We seriously don't need more dumb girls portrayed on TV, and I'd have hoped Parker Posey would have known better, at least. My husband suggested that Ms. Posey might be trying to pay off some huge tax debt or lawsuit settlement. I see few other explanations.
