Smile 6.6 million raised in Greek-run charity

The Penn State IFC-Panhel Dance Marathon raised $6.6 million dollars. This year alone.

$6.6 million

$1.2 million more than last year.

More news later about what sororities and fraternities "won" by raising the most money, but they're all winners with numbers like that.

What's great is that they raise the money for children with cancer who are being treated at Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, PA, and the fund-raising so exceeded expectations over the years, that in addition to helping the families and kids, now the money is going toward building a whole new oncology WING of the hospital.

Congratulations to the dancers, all the Greeks (and independents) who spent months out there canning and fund-raising, and to the Kids, which is what the whole thing is about.

Next time you hear that nonsense that "all Greeks do is drink and carouse", tell them about the Penn Staters raising 6.6 million for pediatric cancer.

Hmm, Penn State's up North.

Looks like those Northerners know what they're doing. They take philanthropy seriously. $6.6 million is some pretty serious stuff.

Way to go, Penn State Greeks!

Wow, this is so awesome. It's amazing to see how Thon continues to grow bigger and bigger each year and bring in more and more donations each year. And how awesome that they're building a new oncology wing!!

FTK!!!

PENN STATE

Sorry...had to jump in there and say it! I'm excited because for orgs. like mine (Phi Mu), Sigma Chi, I think Sig Ep and maybe Phi Delt....whoever has Children's Miracle Network as their National Philanthropy can use the money raised from THON as a double dip because the Hershey Medical Center has a partnership with CMN. In fact, the Beta Mu Chapter (Penn State) is the chapter that has raised the most for CMN in the past because of our invovlement with THON....So, yay for THON and CMN!!!

Way back when I was at PSU, ASA + Alpha Sig seemed to rule THON with $$-amount raised every year.

Wow, that's really cool to hear that these orgs are also able to help the Children's Miracle Network too.

The article said that the total was $4,615, 318.04, or is that a misprint?

Wow. From looking at the list of the top fundraisers, the first non-greek group would be #4 on the list (if they were all grouped together). Amazing.

My neighbor's daughter (who is not Greek though her older sister is a DG) is very involved in "THON" at Penn State. (It's so weird cos we have Dance Marathon aka DM at my school, and when we talk we can not interchange the two words! we MUST use the two different terms!)
