What I Love About The Alpha Kappa Alpha Story
I posted what I love about the Alpha Kappa Alpha story on my blog yesterday.
I'm interested in hearing from you - what do you love most about our story?

I love that our story after 100 years has not ended. The story continues. Alpha Kappa Alpha emerged as an organization of women who were like-minded. They created something I am sure that if they were present today, they would be astounded at what the organization has become and where the organization has gone. But, as Alpha Kappa Alpha Founders, they probably would not be too surprised. In fact, they would probably expect us to be where we are and challenge us to do more….to do better throughout the world!
I love how through adversity and challenges, the Founders were able to stand firm with their beliefs. They were not dismayed by distractions. They stayed the course and survived. I firmly believe that past threats to her existence have only made her stronger. It is that SAME strength, some may call conceit, that exudes in every one of us wearing 20 Pearls!
I love the way the organization has evolved over time. With each decade that passed, the organization continued in like manner and addressed what was prevalent in society at that time. As times changed, so did/does she.
Alpha Kappa Alpha’s story is rich and bountiful. As Ethel’s daughters, we continue to reap the benefits of what she and our Foremothers sewed 100 years and one day ago. I am excited as we continue our service and sisterhood during the next 100 years. The ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA story has NO ending in view. As the story unfolds, and as we all add our own personal sentence or chapter to her story, we too, place a profound mark on this noble sisterhood.

The Bond
I loved how Alpha Kappa Alpha has strengthen the bond between mothers and daughters, sisters, aunts and nieces, cousins, and best friends.
When you share a sisterhood like ours with a love one (family member) it is truly amazing.

I love that it is a story of women of vision, courage, and dedication.
I love that it is a story about women of action, confidence, but also humility and class.
I love that the founders and incorporators of our sisterhood so believed in this sorority and what it might become that they did all that was necessary to preserve it for posterity.
I love that our founders were women that knew their minds and their hearts just that well.
I love, as you point out, Soror Socialite, that these women had the audacity to assert their femininity in a time when many barely considered them to be human, let alone ladies.
I love that I have learned so much about our story in the past year as a member and in the years of my pursuit, but I still have so much more to learn.
I love that our story is "A SERIOUS MATTER."

I love that Alpha Kappa Alpha women were involved in political and social movements prior to it being popular or socially accepted by White Americana. These women were trail blazers in their own right and paved the way for not only Black women but for women in general to take their places in the political and social forefront. In 1908, the average women was not taking the stand that our founders were and it was unheard of that Black women would. Thank God that our founders were not average in any way shape or fashion. I love their history of service in the arena of politics and in the augmenting of the social well-being and growth of the Black community before it was popular (or even safe) to do so.

Soror Black Socialite,
Can I be you when I grow up? I'm so jealous of your fabulousness!!!
To answer your question:
What I love about my Sorority's story... The "National Hymn"--sounds like a lullabye from a far, far away fairy tale... Then, upon embarking with powerhouse sorors (besides my legacy family sorors), I realized the magnitude of Alpha Kappa Alpha and the lives we have changed "through the years".
I think outsiders who fail to "see", are unable to fathom the true meaning of "that moving Spirit" set so long ago. I see with wonderment--bewilderment in their eyes that the "Goddess" blesses women... That "thrills me so..."
The beloved story to me is almost equal to that "story of that Old Cross". Enriched, Self-assured and Pleased, I can live another day, motivated to K.I.M. When I do the service of my Sorority, I feel blessed that I have done right in His name...
That is what I love about my Sorority's story...

I have to whole heartedly agree with you Soror CountryGurl. My Aunt is a Soror and though the relationship between she and my Mother has soured recently... the bond we share and Aunt and Niece and moreover Soror and Soror is greater than ever. She has always been like another Mother too me.
I have also reestablished a closer relationship with a cousin who is my age, also a Soror!
I love my A-K-A!!!!!

I just looked at some pictures from the Centennial Celebration at the Alpha Chapter. Even though I didn't know a soul in any of those photos, my heart knew them. They are my Sorors, my sisters, my strong ivy vine. We may not know one another personally, but when one of us recognizes a Soror, there's an instant bond and that's what I love about Alpha Kappa Alpha.

^^ I couldn't have said it any better, Soror!
Knowing that there are over 200,000 women with the same ideals and purpose, with the same classiness and dedication to service and sisterhood is what I love about Alpha Kappa Alpha. Knowing that there is a deep and instanteous bond between all of my Sorors is what I love about Alpha Kappa Alpha. Knowing that this bond started 100 years ago, is strong today and will be stronger tomorrow is what I love about Alpha Kappa Alpha. And knowing that each of us is just a small but very valuable piece of a *much* larger puzzle is definitely what i love about Alpha Kappa Alpha.

I just came back today to see what everyone else had to say on this serious matter. I agree whole-hartedly about the hymn. I get all choked up when I hear it or sing it. I love going to aka1908.org and clicking on the centennial site link. If you haven't already done so, check out the powerpoint presentations with the voice overs. You will be so choked up. Someone did an awesome job at putting that together. Well, I guess I said all of that to say, " There is a whole lot to love".

Ditto, Soror!!!
What I love about our story is that we are all a part of it. I love that I have joined the ranks of women that I so admired as an interest. I love that not only do "we help each other," but we TEACH each other. I love that our story is ever changing and ever evolving. Like Soror AKA@D '91 said, our story continues. I love our 20 pearls. I love our MS and GL. I love the strength, courage, and wisdom that is in each and every one of us, passed down to us from our Pearls. I love the stories of our founders' lives. I see a little of myself in each one, and that reminds me that they were real women, just like us, not just names on a page.
But what I love the MOST is that there is always something about our story that I didn't know, and I love that I am continually learning about her. It only re-ignites my love for her.
