Delta Zeta at University of California

I am fascinated by how various national fraternities and sororitie (and their chapters) evolved. The single most interesting one has to be the Delta Zeta chapter at University of California - Berkley. Here is the story:

In 1900, a Club named Enewah is organized

5/8/09, Alpha chapter of Beta Phi Alpha is founded

Later 1909, Mekatina Club is organized

1/1/14, Mekatina reorganizes at Alpha chapter of Theta Upsilon

8/15/15, Enewah becomes Mu chapter of Delta Zeta

11/1/15, Norrena Club is organized

In 1917, Iaqua Club is organized

2/14/19, a group of Eastern Star members form Alpha chapter of Phi Omega Pi

Later in 1919, Tewanah Club is organized

12/13/19, Iaqua Club reforms as Alpha chapter of Alpha Sigma Delta

3/5/23, Norenna Club becomes Alpha chapter of Lambda Omega

12/6/25, Tewanah Clubs becomes Alpha chapter of yet another new sorority, Phi Alpha Chi

1/7/28, the three chapters of Phi Alpha Chi are absorbed by a slightly larger sorority, Sigma Phi Beta

1932, the four chapter Alpha Sigma Delta is absorbed by Lambda Omega

September 1933, Lambda Omega is the absorbed by Theta Upsilon

Also in 1933, Sigma Phi Beta is absorbed by Phi Omega Pi

In 1941, Beta Phi Alpha is absorbed by Delta Zeta

In 1946, Phi Omega Pi is absorbed by Delta Zeta

5/6/62, Theta Upsilon is abosorbed by Delta Zeta

During 1969, sadly Mu chapter of Delta Zeta is closed (along with many other fraternities & sororities) during those turbulent years at University of California.

I count seven different national organizations (& 5 locals preceding them) all part of one chapter. Amazingly, four of them were Alpha chapters!
If there was ever a chapter that deserved to be revived again to celebrate this interesting history, this is my nomination.

This information was derived mainly from Barid's Manuals and the Blue & Gold Year Book.
