Does anyone have a picture of our house at Syracuse?

The Butterfield House

Here you go. Not a great picture, but I didn't need to look far

I seem to recall reading that another organization is currently occupying the Alpha Chapter house. Does anyone know which one? Or am I just making this up?

This is what I read on a blog..

The sisters of Alpha Gamma Delta formerly resided in the Butterfield House at 709 Comstock on the outskirts of campus. Today, however, the residence serves as a learning community for SU women. In less than a year, the lease on the Butterfield House expires and it's anticipated that the sorority will recolonize in the 2008-9 academic year

Let's hope the last few words is true.

Agreed. I know that it's not unheard of that other organizations occupy houses of dormant chapters (like AOPi at the Chi Chapter house at Michigan State), but still...because of the history...one can't help but worry about its condition as we await Alpha's recolonization.

That can be true, but I witnessed the opposite. Back in the 70s, the Alpha Lambda chapter left Ohio State. I can't remember which Fraternity occupied the house during that time, but when we recolonized in 1980 the Housing Association completely remodeled the home and put an addition on to the back. I was there in the early 80s and the only problem we had was with one of the showers. It may have taken a while for other issues to pop up.

Knowing this is the Alpha chapter if International decides to recolonize, I'm sure we would see some heafty donations coming in. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

LOL! That's my blog! I was asking if anyone had a picture because that was the only picture I could find. The information about the house is what I was told by IHQ. We do own it and it is currently being used as an all female dorm. We will be recolonizing in the future.

I lived in Butterfield!

I lived in AGD's old house my freshman year at Syracuse, and it was awesome. I didn't request to live their - 35 random freshman girls were thrown in there. I thought it was a learning community and freaked out, but it ended up being a good experience, haha. It's still a freshman girls dorm right now, but I think you guys are taking it back next year, or something.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Once all the houses make quota (all but one did) AGD will recolonize.

Okay, I was a bit confused thinking that an Alpha Gam from Ga Tech (AGD Gamma Phi Chapter) knew about Syracuse.

GammaPhi88 is a Gamma Phi Beta.

When I first started going to the local Panhellenic meetings, it took about 2 or 3 meetings before I figured who "Gamma Phi" is.

Syracuse's greek life has been growing exponentially in the past few years; this past spring, there was something like 800 girls rushing, and i know many for whom rush didn't "work out" in one way or another so there's obviously space for another sorority. i know that the butterfield house is currently occupied by SU, but the lease ends next year and me and a couple girls i've talked to would love to bring AGD back to SU. how do you guys feel about that, and what, in your opinion, the possibility of that actually happening?
