Mold Problem!

So I'm cleaning out my closet before thanksgiving, and while unearthing a pile of cloths in the back corner, I discover that somehow they're soaking wet! I don't know where the water came from at this point (and there's no actual water there now), but I'm trying to clean up the mess.

I have no idea how long it's been wet there, but I now have clothes that are musty and moldy. What's the best way to remove the mold from the clothes? And thinking ahead, from the carpet as well? There's no visible mold on the carpet, and very little on the clothes, but they both smell bad.

Help please!

Also, i live in an apartment with no place to put clothes outside, I keep reading to lay things in the sun, and not only is it cloudy and winter, there's no place for me to do this.

Ew, yuck, sorry to hear that, Drole, I've had that happen in my laundry room.

I've never been successful in getting mold completely out of clothes, even when I bleach the bejebus out of the whites in the hottest water. So I'm eager to see if someone else has a tip there.

But carpet-wise, I have found something that FINALLY worked on our rugs for stains and smells. Try Woolite Oxy 2 Deep Cleaner. It's the one that comes with the two canisters and the one spray nozzle. I tried every spot and carpet cleaner on the market and nothing worked until this stuff. I haven't had a mold smell to deal with, but I'd imagine if you get the stuff out of the carpet, the smell should go with it.

Good luck! What a fine how-do-you-do for Thanksgiving week!
